CURSE – The Awakening… and the Old
9th April 2020Redefining Darkness Records continue to unshackle amazing extreme metal releases upon the masses and next up are Swedish blackened thrash metallers CURSE. This review is heavily delayed due to the current epidemic that is still prevalent in the world, however I believe that CURSE deserve the recognition for such a chaotic sonic onslaught in the form of “The Awakening… and the Old” EP.
Their is an unapologetic sheer rage showcased on this EP, interweaving second wave of black metal style raw nihilistic darkness with thrash style riffs and groove. Making the songs keep their brutality, while interjection some venomous savage hooks that will get you banging your head. While the vocal delivery is a rasping scream that spew forth from vocalist PJ and are prominent in the mix. The demonic hellish speeding metal is reminiscent of bands like NIFELHEIM, AURA NOIR and NOCTURNAL, a poise of full on barbaric aggression and manic mayhem that is guaranteed to burrow under your skin and have you spinning these monstrous tunes over and over. All hail CURSE…
