Dead Dark Slide – I Am Dead EP
20th August 2014 0 By Rich DodginI’m very picky when it comes to goth, industrial and death. There are so many bands producing albums in these genres that for one reason or another I just don’t like – sometimes just because the band in question isn’t doing anything original enough, and sometimes simply because what the band is doing just doesn’t do it for me.
Unfortunately, the latest EP from industrial-influenced goth rockers Dead Dark Slide is one of those releases that doesn’t resonate with me. The five tracks on the I Am Dead EP are plodding industrial goth by numbers that are only memorable because they’re so cheesy sounding.
There are subtle elements of Marilyn Manson, Type O Negative and Rob Zombie here, but the overall sound is a generically dull and annoyingly repetitive one. And it says an awful lot when a band can’t even hold your interest for 5 songs. Maybe if the production was crisper this would have some sort appeal, but instead we’re treated to vocals that are horribly distorted and sound like they’ve been recorded at a different volume to the rest of the band.
Maybe it’s me missing the point, and fans of this sort of music will love this, but this sounds like it was created by a couple of six formers in a bedroom sometime back in the early 90’s. Avoid.
Score: 6 out of 10

About the author
I'm an Edinburgh based fiction writer, cat lover, and metal fan. My favourite genre is thrash metal – in particular those bands from the late 80's early 90's Venice Beach thrash / crossover scene, such as Suicidal Tendencies, Excel, Beowulf, No Mercy, and Uncle Slam. I'm also a huge fan of the Indian metal scene, which is producing some incredible bands and albums.
