The local metal scene in Edinburgh is amazing right now.  We have thrash metallers Black Talon, old school extreme metallers Tommy Concrete And The Werewolves, and grunge pop-rockers Hagana – all personal favourites of mine.

We also have thrash metallers Disposable who release their debut album on the 20th September.  These guys have been together since 2009 and in the time since then have been gigging locally, building up a following, and developing their own unique thrash sound.  At The Foot Of The World is their debut album and it’s one that a lot of fans have been eagerly awaiting.

The album opens with ‘Existence‘, a fast paced track that right from the off races along like a crazed metalhead in a mosh pit.  It’s impressive stuff – the riffs are catchy, the drums pound like a bastard, and the raw shouting vocals compliment the music perfectly.

Addiction‘ continues in the same vein, though if anything is even faster and more aggressive.  ‘Void‘ has an almost crossover feel to it and I couldn’t help but headbang along as I listened to it.

Into The Water‘ has some fantastic riffs and the relentless speed of the track is nicely broken up with some more intricate guitar work that shows Disposable are not just a one trick pony.

At The Foot Of The World‘, ‘Leave This Place‘, and ‘Disposable‘ are all as manic and intense as the earlier tracks, and Disposable play with such passion that listening to them is an exhilarating experience.

Addiction (Reprise)‘ is a slow moving acoustic number and again shows that these guys can do more than just shred.  It’s beautifully done and gives you time to catch your breath and rest your aching neck, before final track ‘Now It Ends‘ kicks in and the moshing starts again.

Musically, there are subtle nods to Death Angel, Slayer, Megadeth, and Exodus, but Disposable have very much created their own sound here – and those who think that the new breed of thrash is just ripping off the old school will find At The Foot Of The World refreshingly different.

With At The Foot Of The World, Disposable have produced one hell of a debut.  It’s fast as fuck and aggressive as hell, and if you call yourself a thrash fan then you really need to check out the links below and get yourself a copy of this album – awesome stuff !!  \m/
