Overkill – Classic Grand – Glasgow – 8/4/16

Overkill – Classic Grand – Glasgow – 8/4/16

13th April 2016 0 By John Deaux

I haven’t been to an Overkill show since 1991 (Horrorscope tour) & this show made me feel like I was 18 again. Just a shame I didn’t feel that way the day after.

From the intro of XDM right through to the end of Electric Rattlesnake you were pummeled by the sheer ferocity of Overkill.

After a very quick “HELLO SCOTLAND” they burst into ‘Hello From The Gutter’ & from there on it was a full frontal attack.

If there was any other stage talk, I must’ve blinked & missed it.

This was Overkill at their finest. 90 minutes of pure head down & fuck you thrash metal. Younger bands could learn a lot by going to see shows of this caliber.  You don’t need a flashy light show, bucket loads of pyro, you just need a firm belief in your craft. That is something Overkill has always had.

Blitz has way so much energy that it should be made illegal.  He runs on & off stage like a Tasmanian Devil. His voice hasn’t changed at all either. It still has the fiery intensity of a urinary tract infection.

Eddy Garcia (Pissing Razors & tech) did a fantastic job filling in for Ron who sadly couldn’t be on this tour.

Dave Linsk is a monster of a guitar player live & can shred like a cheese grater.

Derek “The Skull” Tailer locks his rhythm playing in with the precision of a quality time piece.

D.D. Verni  slides in as perfectly as a finely oiled ball bearing & provides the perfect backbone for the band to compliment & still has the best live bass sound I have ever heard.

Every single song was amazing. I had no idea what to expect after 25 years & I wasn’t disappointed. Despite being left feeling very broken the next day I cannot wait to do it again.

Here’s to the new abum, the next tour & the live DVD of Feel The Fire & Horrorscope being played in their entirety & another 30 years of amazing thrash.
