SPiT LiKE THiS – Interview @ Hard Rock Hell4th December 2013
LORD ZiON and ViKKi SPiT from SPiT LiKE THiS talk Zombie’s, prejudice and their new movie MEET THE CADAVERS . Here’s an insight into the movie, it’s creators, and begs the question what is ‘normal’ anyway?
AATR: Your second album is titled Normalityville Horror, what scares you most about being ‘normal’?
LORD ZiON: It’s not me that’s scared, it’s other people who are scared of trying different things and being a little bit different, and following their hearts. What I don’t like is, when you go to school and they try and mould you, and from that point onwards before you know it you’re in this machine that a lot of people never ever get out of. I am not a big believer in religion, I think we’re only here once, and a lot of people waste that time.
ViKKi SPiT: I think so many people spend so much time going ‘Oh you do that – that’s so great, I wish I could do that’, and I say ‘So why don’t you?’. People make excuses not to do the things they want to do.
AATR: So it’s about doing what’s in your heart and enjoying this life while you have it?
Vikki Spit: While you have the opportunity to do something you want to do, do it. What’s the worst that can happen?
AATR: Living the Rock n Roll lifestyle, is that your normal?
LORD ZiON: I don’t think we live the Rock n Roll lifestyle. I think we deviated from that quite some time ago. We just do what we like to do – whatever that is. I don’t drink, Vikki doesn’t drink. We don’t do drugs. We used to, but not since 2006, and I’m a better person for it, I’m not such an obnoxious cunt anymore. We just do what we do. We have our own expectations but we won’t meet other people’s.
ViKKi SPiT: We’re still having fun though, we’re making a movie.
AATR: Well that’s my next question, your movie Meet The Cadavers, tell us more about it, when it’s going to released etc.
LORD ZiON: It’s a comedy horror film that I wrote. It’s about an ordinary family just like yours and mine, except they are Zombies. So it’s kind of Adam’s Family – in that vein. When it gets scary it’s really really scary, and when it’s funny, it’s really really funny.
We’ve got a few days left of shooting, then we start the editing. We will be taking the movie to Cannes, and hopefully it will come out around the summer or autumn next year.
AATR: Vikki, are you starring in the movie as well?
ViKKi SPiT: Yes, yes I am. I am also a producer.
AATR: Is your doggy in the movie? (Vikki Spit is holding a cute-heart of a doggy on her lap).
ViKKi SPiT: She was offered a role but unfortunately she was only a month out of the Rescue Kennels and wasn’t ready for her close up. She will be in the next one, she’s learning tricks and getting her confidence.
LORD ZiON: We like the idea of a Zombie Dog.
AATR: Yeah, I think that will go down really well. So – what’s the fascination with Zombies and Horror?
LORD ZiON: Well, I’ve flipped it on it’s head as what I’ve done with these …
ViKKi SPiT: Don’t give it away….
LORD ZiON: What I’ve done is taken this regular family and portrayed them as Zombies.
ViKKi SPiT: Or are they…..
LORD ZiON: They experience prejudice because the world has seen all these Zombie movies and assumes that’s what they are like. I grew up having people assume things because of the way I looked, and it’s just a slightly different take on that. So it’s a different Zombie film that I have written.
AATR: As a song-writer, you have that talent as a writer so was it a natural progression to go on to write a movie?
LORD ZiON: I wasn’t sure if I could do it, but I wanted to give it a go. It’s not the first film I have written, I wrote another film first, but the budget for that would be too big. so I thought I needto write some smaller filmd and get a name for myself and then get the budget to do the bigger stuff.
AATR: So where does your heart lie, with the music and the band or with creating movies?
LORD ZiON: It’s all entertainment, I am an entertainer in whatever field that is. Sometimes music is driving me, and sometimes it’s a story I want to get out. It’s just about entertaining.
AATR: Are your live shows quite theatrical?
LORD ZiON: It’s not theatrical in terms of having props. We use dto have that, but we don’t anymore. We are a bit more lively than most bands.
ViKKi SPiT: We engage the audience. It’s one of those things, if you see the band enjoying themselves, the audience is more likely to enjoy themselves.
LORD ZiON: If you are looking for something that is a little bit different and a little bit unique then come along and check us out. We didn’t set out to be different or unique as that is quite a contrived thing to do, but that seems to be the thing people tell us. They can’t pigeonhole us, so we just are what we are and that makes me quite proud, as I would rather be a blot on the landscape than the landscape.
