LIK – Misanthropic Breed – Review
26th September 2020 0 By Mark BoothSwedeath metallers LIK might have only just slithered out of their Stockholm catacombs in 2014, however they have been leaving a trail of bloody death and annihilation ever since. Set to unleash their third album “Misanthropic Breed” upon the unexpecting masses, they have come to splatter your cerebral cortex with a visceral array of ferocity.
The album opens with a horror movie sample before a blitzkrieg of drums shatter any remaining fragments of your skull. Then the buzzing grisly riffs have a massive killing capacity and add the final violation to your flesh. Finally the snarly growled vocals spew forth into your desolate vacant skull with indecent and obscene visions. “Misanthropic Breed” is full of chugging and punishing ghoulish groove that is the foundation of the savage, monolithic catchy riffs that adds to the macabre atmosphere. The d-beat hammering assault perfectly compliment the ever-flowing streams of melodic cemetery dwelling solos that punctuate through the grotesque deathly soundscape.
LIK have also incorporated some NWOBHM/Maiden-esque galloping riffs and harmonies to the Swedeath brutality perfection on this release, the song ‘Decay’ is a great example of this with its dual guitar attack. “Misanthropic Breed” is a fantastic slab of swedeath and is easily going to be in a lot of people’s album of the year as the lurch down the left hand path of Swedeath. LIK might not have reinvented the genre, however the eleven tracks and thirty nine minutes on offer gutfuck you and will leave you wanting to crawl back into the desecrated catacomb with LIK while they envisage the next epoch of their ghastly soundscape.
