Jessica Lynn Releases the Video For Her Haunting Christmas Single ‘It’s Just Not Christmas’

8th December 2020 0 By Jon Deaux

Even in normal years, or in the best of them, there can be more to Christmas than joy, cheer and tinsel. For some, the absence of loved ones — partners, lovers, friends and family — can cast a shadow over the festive period. In 2020, a lot of people are missing those they love, who can’t be with them: perhaps because of COVID restrictions, perhaps because of friction, fall-outs and breakups, or perhaps because — saddest of all — those left behind are missing those who have passed away.

Country crossover sensation Jessica Lynn found these bittersweet and sad emotions inspired her to write her Christmas single for 2020, ‘It’s Just Not Christmas’. The song may be a far cry from her usual, upbeat, vibrant Christmas releases and performances, but it’s truly fitting for this year and speaks to many. Having released this poignant single, Jessica is following it up with a brand-new video, which also captures these emotions.

“I honestly never thought releasing a sad Christmas song would be something I’d ever do, but sometimes life has other plans for you,” Jessica reflects, “This song means so much to me and it’s been amazing that fans from around the world have connected with it, in a very special way.

“When I was planning this music video, I wanted to let the lyrics shine. It is such a simple piece of music that I felt the video should be very intimate, although it is extremely different from the type of content I usually put out.  My last music videos have been super-high energy, with a lot of movement and action. This time around, I let the music guide me to what felt right.

“It proved difficult to film as there’s so much emotion for me surrounding this song, and — as you see in the video — I was extremely close to breaking down so many times throughout, but I believe in my heart of hearts that pure and raw emotion was how this story really needed to be told.”

Listen to the song and watch the video and you may well recognize feelings you’ve felt yourself, or connect with the feelings of others, particularly this Christmas.

Christmas is a big time for Jessica Lynn, who’s famed for her Christmas specials and spectaculars such as ‘Jessica Lynn – A Very Merry Country Christmas’, which showcase her energy and stagecraft. Despite the 2020 COVID situation, Jessica’s Christmas show WILL go on, in virtual/livestreamed form, bringing much needed cheer AND raising money for charity. For the very first time, Jessica will be putting on a virtual version of her Christmas concert, from Daryl’s House, on Thursday 10th December at 8 p.m. EST, in a full-band, livestream performance. Virtual donations for Toys for Tots Westchester will be encouraged, as well as there being much holiday spirit and cheer!

In other news, Jessica has been chosen out of hundreds of bands across the United States by The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to become an elite member of American Music Abroad: a role which will have her traveling to countries across the globe performing as a cultural ambassador for the USA, spreading American music and culture.

Check out ‘It’s Just Not Christmas’ for yourself. It’s honest and uplifting and brings a new meaning to ‘a Christmas haunting’. Also, remember to make a date for Jessica Lynn’s ‘A Very Merry Country Christmas’ and don’t forget her other livestreams, which have been in Pollstar’s Top 10.

It’s Just Not Christmas is available to stream/download from all digital platforms.
