Sylosis – La Belle Angele – Edinburgh – 9th April 2024
10th April 2024 0 By Jon DeauxSince hearing the album Cycle Of Suffering and their latest opus A Sign Of Things To Come, Sylosis (is a band I have wanted to see live. Those 2 albums tick all the boxes, plenty of chugging guitars, technical drums, and enough ear-blistering shredtastic solos to make this aging guitarist wet himself. Marry that with the scream, growl, and clean vocal, you have a recipe for greatness.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, Sylosis ran slightly late so they only played for an hour. But what an hour it was. Especially when the die-hard fans had been waiting 12 long years for them to come back and play the Scottish capital.
Opening with the stupendous Poison For The Lost from the latest album A Sign Of Things to Come, it was game fuckin on.
This was to be a setlist that would take no prisoners. With the Inclusion of The Blackest Skyline and Stained Humanity from the Conclusion Of An Age LP as well as Altered State Of Consciousness from the Edge Of The Earth album old school fans were kept happy.
Whereas NOOBS like myself couldn’t be happier with the Cycle Of Suffering and A Sign Of Things To Come choice of tracks. Especially Calcified from the Cycle Of Suffering record gave me sheer joy. This was the track that made me take notice of Sylosis in the first place. For me, it’s the perfect blend of musical technicality mixed with sheer heaviness.
Despite Josh informing us that he’s battling a chest infection and has very little voice left, you couldn’t tell. He sounded immense and this made the crowd sing even louder.Deadwood from their current album A Sign Of Things To Come finished the 11-track set perfectly and left the masses wanting more and a hot sweaty mess.
Would I go back and see Sylosis again? Hell yes. In a heartbeat.
Sylosis had a blast on stage and this translated to the audience. Amazing to watch a group of musicians who are currently top of their game.
