DELILAH BON – ‘EVIL, HATE FILLED FEMALE’ CD REVIEW
13th September 2024 0 By Suzie RottencrotchIf you’ve ever been called “hysterical,” “emotional,” or, my personal favorite, “too angry,” Delilah Bon’s EVIL, HATE FILLED FEMALE is going to feel like a warm, rage-filled hug, wrapped in spiked pink ribbon. The album title is the equivalent of that sarcastic, “Oh, I’m being dramatic?”
Delilah Bon (the alter ego of Lauren Tate from Hands Off Gretel) uses this project to create a space for women to express their anger, reclaim their power, and dismantle the systems that try to silence them.Women in mainstream pop are often expected to be polished, sexualized, and pleasant, but Delilah rejects all of that. She takes genres historically dominated by men and infuses them with a feminist perspective, flipping the power dynamics.
On a broader level, Delilah Bon’s lyrics offer a refreshing departure from the sanitized, commercialized brand of “girl power” feminism. This isn’t about feel-good slogans or commercialized empowerment—it’s about deconstructing the systems that inflict harm. While some feminist pop can feel performative, EVIL, HATE FILLED FEMALE feels deeply personal and genuinely political.
This album isn’t just a mood—it’s a lifestyle. You can’t listen to this album and not feel like you need to knock over some tables. Score 9/10Track Listing:
