ALBERT KING & STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN – IN SESSION (DELUXE EDITION) – TRIPLE LP REVIEW
20th September 2024 0 By Jon DeauxThis long-sought-after live album finally brings blues legend Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan to the masses, in its complete form and the only known recording of Vaughan and King together.
Firstly, the pressing is spectacular. From the opening of Born Under A Bad Sign right through to I’m Gonna Move To The Outskirts Of Town, it’s hard not to be carried away on a wave of deep, playful, and jamtastic blues.
This triple live set is worth a purchase just for the 15-minute version of Texas Flood. It’s an orgasmic blend of Albert and Stevie combined with the band consisting of Tony Llorens (piano/organ), Gus Thornton (bass), and Michael Llorens (drums) carry you away on a cloud. All 6 sides will have you feeling this way.
This is how live blues is meant to sound—pure, raw groovetastic.
Albert King is a god amongst bluesmen and this is a masterclass in just how good he is at providing a moonscape. Couple that with Stevie Ray Vaughan and you have an almost perfect match.
Live blues DON”T get much better than this. This has been a long time coming and it’s been well worth the wait.Score 10/10
