CANNIBAL CORPSE – 27TH SEPTEMBER 2024: 02 VICTORIA WAREHOUSE, MANCHESTER – REVIEW

In the words of A Day To Remember, “I’m right back it again”.

This time for Cannibal Corpse at the Manchester O2 Victoria Warehouse and what can I say about these guys, absolutely amazing with a great lineup of supporting acts throughout the evening. Cannibal Corpse is a band renowned for their intense energy and powerful stage presence, they did not disappoint at all, not one bit. With the energy shown it’s easy to forget these guys are in their 50’s and have been going strong since 1988.  The venue was absolutely packed with adoring fans from all generations, it was fabulous to see.

There is something about death metal concerts that just sticks with you throughout the evening and I’m not on about the strong stench of BO that lingers around venues (Come on guys, if you can afford a gig ticket – you can afford deodorant). The metal community is and always will be one of my favorite communities the camaraderie, inclusivity and love you feel at metal gigs is something you do not experience anywhere else and the vibe tonight was amazing. I met so many great people and shared many laughs throughout the evening.

Cannibal Corpse’s set list was a rough and ready adventure through their extensive discography with some well-known tracks such as “Summoned For Sacrifice”, “Fucked with a knife” and “Hammer Smashed Face” as some notable mentions. With a discography that boasts sixteen studio albums, two box sets, four video albums, and two live albums there was a lot of variety throughout their set.

Supporting acts Municipal Waste, Immolation, and Schizophrenia were fantastic, call me bias but I am a huge Municipal Waste fan and I could have died happily after their performance. The opening acts set the tone, but it was clear everyone was waiting for the main event.

Schizophrenia before this evening I had not heard of it before and found it to be outstanding with such a strong stage presence. The synergy between their music and the audience was mesmerizing to watch with crowds forming huge circle pits at their beckoning command.

Immolation unfortunately didn’t do it for me, I can understand why they have such a strong following and they are super talented at what they do but it just couldn’t stick with me. I felt their energy was lacking with only one of their members being visibly enthusiastic throughout their set. Truth be said, I’ve seen more energy in a geriatrics wing and I say that in the kindest way possible.

Municipal Waste as mentioned above absolutely smashed it. Amazing, and I would see them again (for the 6th time). I could waffle on about them and their performance but I’m scared I may come across as borderline fan girl… maybe… possibly.

All in all, the gig was a testament to the band’s brutal legacy and shows no signs of slowing down, Cannibal Corpse still shows crowds the reason why they remain the pinnacle of death metal. Guttural, dirty, and fucking face melting.
