FAST RISING ALT ROCK DUO COMMON TONGUE REVEAL THE SONGS THAT HAVE IMPACTED THEM
26th November 2024Potent UK two-piece COMMON TONGUE unleash their contagious and fuzzed up new single and video, Done, on Friday 29th November. With the band on the rise, we exclusively caught up with them and asked the guys to reveal the songs have impacted their sound:
“Out of the Black – Royal Blood
Let’s start with the obvious, Royal Blood! It’s the band we’ve been compared to the most. For a while we said we were like reverse Royal Blood – Guitar not Bass. They are a band we both love and have seen live a few times, but actually never together. Our song Blackout is actually loosely based on when Guitar Matt went to see them at the Brighton On the Beach thing a few summers ago.cleopatrik – The Drake
From the big feedback at the start of this song you can feel that raw energy. Linked with the tight drums it comes together beautifully. The structure is very similar to lots of our songs. Catchy guitar riff on its own to begin with, then big drums before dropping for the chorus as the vocals come in.Tigercub – Swoon
I think sonically, there are definitely similarities, riff heavy, driven hard rock – what’s not to like. We particularly take inspiration from is the dynamics they use in their songs, they create a huge sound and also use quiet moments really well to add interest. We saw them live last year and they put on a great show.Body Crisis – Candy Blues
Local boys to us and on first listen a really different sound. But actually when we were writing Done. we did refer to the initial riff and driven drums and being a bit “like Body Crisis”. Not to be too spiritual, but I know we rehearse in the same studio sometimes so maybe there were some vibes around. Southsea two-piece bands getting it Done. done!Dinosaur Pile Up – Back Foot
Guitar Matt has loved this band since he was a kid, he even wrote a guitar tab for one of their tunes and posted it online. So loads of DPU influences throughout loads of our music. Again, huge overdriven guitar, punchy lyrics and tight drums. It’s what we’re about.”
