Finnish Heavy Doom Rockers DEEP RIVER ACOLYTES Announce New EP
28th November 2024Oulu-based Doom Rockers DEEP RIVER ACOLYTES announce new EP ”Procession of the Damned” to be released via Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records on December 13th.
Today the band reveals their new song ”They Told Their Secrets in Dreams”
Says the band: ”The new EP ’Procession of The Damned’ was done during 2023 and 2024. It is not that doomy this time but more like oddball heavy rock and epic, blackened proto-metal. Also, we’re planning to start the recordings for the next full length album later this year … Way too much excellent heavy material in our hands”.

DEEP RIVER ACOLYTES kicked off 2011 in Oulu, Finland under the moniker ‘Deliverance’ and after two demos released an album ‘Relentless Grace’ in 2013 on Empire Records (BE). Deliverance was doing some pretty successful shows, the album got pa ositive response and the band was getting some following… However, after some consideration, the band felt they needed to change their name to something more original.
From late 2014 onwards the band is called ‘Deep River Acolytes’ (“Deep River” part comes from the Finnish name for the movie ‘Deliverance’ and “Acolytes” coming from the song ‘The Devil’s Acolytes’).
In the summer of 2015 DRA self-released the EP ‘From The Voids of Chaos’ and was doing some gigs in Finland. Also, the material for the upcoming full-length(s) was written, rehearsed and demoed during a couple of years.
During 2017 Deep River Acolytes recorded the full-length album ‘The Hour of Trial’ and it was released February 23, 2018 on Via Nocturna (PL).
In 2018 the band did some live shows and rehearsed new material and in the summer of 2019 started recording their next album ‘Alchemia Aeterna’ which is stylewise much in the vein of 2015 EP. Very much blues and doom oriented. Still heavy metal though. ‘Alchemia Aeterna’ is released October 30, 2020 on Argonauta Records (ITA). Change in bass department (also 2020). EK out, AS in.
