ALL THAT REMAINS – ANTIFRAGILE ALBUM REVIEW

ALL THAT REMAINS – ANTIFRAGILE ALBUM REVIEW

14th February 2025 0 By Laura Jane

This is an interesting one for me and one that I’ve been looking forward to giving a ‘proper’ listen and sitting down with. I present to you, my review on All That Remains – ‘Antifragile‘. This is the bands’ tenth studio album and was released on January 31, 2025. I mean sure, I’m 2 weeks or so late to the party but hey… I’m a busy lady what can I say.

The album features 10 tracks with a run time of 43 minutes 21 seconds making this album in general a length listen but still not surpassing the hour mark, so if you’ve got a spare hour floating around whilst you do some mundane house chores – slap it on and get it listened too. You may not be disappointed.

So, before I go any further I’d like to just say one thing about one of the tracks on this album which is apparently trending online as a bit of a ‘meme’ too is the similarity between ‘The Piper’ from their new release and the track ‘Doomsday‘ from Architects. I mean sure, yeah I can hear it but does it make it a bad thing? I guess a negative for originality but these days all songs have some riff or similarity inherited from another track but I do have to note this is definitely a case of “S’cuse me good sirs, Can I borrow your homework?” being played, it is to be noted there are a few similarities happening here…

Highlighted tracks on this album for me would be ‘No Tomorrow’, ‘Poison It’, and ‘Let You Go’  of which had a slightly nostalgic vibe here and there of what old All That Remains used to sound like. I love the change in music and the new vibe that is there however, to me it doesn’t really sound ‘the same’ as the band used to sound once upon a time and hey, most bands don’t and THAT’S OKAY. Change is good… sometimes… I’ll give them one thing they have remained as close as possible to their roots in metalcore whilst still throwing the odd curve ball in genre-blending here and there and that’s great to see (or listen too?).

In general I find the album to be good and was a great listen. I thoroughly enjoyed it however as the above point felt it lacked a fair bit of originality, unfortunately. I didn’t find myself skipping any tracks and did listen to the album in full so if this is something to go by it’s a clear sign that the music in general is palatable and enjoyable throughout each track featured on this release.

Overall, I’d give this album a solid 7/10. I would love to give it a higher rating as I absolutely adore All That Remains and have done since clocking them on my radar back when ‘The Fall Of Ideals‘ was released in 2006. They were one of them bands that I used to have on my shitty little iPod shuffle and listen to regularly going to and from college. Jeez, writing that made me feel old and I felt my eye slightly twitch but it is what it is. Musically they have evolved since back in the day and it’s not a negative, they’ve shown they’ve been able to adapt to line up changes and create an ever slightly changing song throughout the years which you have to give them praise for.
