Anneke Van Giersbergen – La Vie – (EP) Review

27th March 2025 0 By Jon Deaux

I’ve just listened to La Vie, the new EP by Anneke Van Giersbergen, and I have to say—it’s stunning. The kind of stunning that makes you stop mid-scroll and suddenly develop feelings you weren’t prepared for. It’s delicate, powerful, and possibly too beautiful for someone who once cried because they dropped a sandwich.

Anneke’s voice is, as always, otherworldly. If an angel went through therapy and wrote about it, this is what it would sound like. The melodies are lush, the arrangements are rich, and every track is so emotionally charged that you start to wonder if you should finally take up journaling.

The title La Vie means “Life,” which is quite ambitious.  Life, in reality, is mostly just emails and waiting for the kettle to boil. But Anneke makes it sound poetic. She sings about love, loss, and existence with such depth that you start to believe everything might be meaningful—until you remember you forgot to take the bins out.

It’s the kind of music that makes you want to stand in a field and dramatically stare at the sky, but realistically, you’ll just listen to it while pretending not to cry on the bus. Either way, it’s beautiful. La Vie is a masterpiece—an emotional gut punch wrapped in celestial harmonies. Highly recommend it, but proceed with caution if you aren’t planning to have an existential crisis today.
