Baroness bus driver to be charged
7th February 2013
Norman Markus – the driver of the bus carrying Baroness that became involved in a serious accident has been charged with dangerous driving. He also also faces a number of other charges of using a vehicle with defective brakes and breaching a 7.5-ton weight limit, insufficient daily and weekly rest periods and using a vehicle in a condition likely to cause danger of injury. He has also been charged with not having the correct license entitlement to drive the coach involved in the crash.
The crash took place at the junction of Brassknocker Hill and the A36 in Bath on August 15 last year, with the band’s tourbus falling over 30ft over a viaduct.
The band suffered a number of serious injuries, as John Baizley (guitar, vocals) broke his left arm and left leg, while Allen Blickle (drums) and Matt Maggioni (bass) each suffered fractured vertebrae.
Baroness’ members have since made recoveries, with Baizley recently posting a video featuring an acoustic performance.
The band has yet to comment on this most recent development. Markus is due to appear before the Magistrates' Court in Bath, near the site of the accident, on Friday, April 5.
