Body Count – Merciless Album Review
19th November 2024 0 By Quinccy“Merciless” is the eighth studio album from Body Count formed in Los Angeles in 1990 (Fronted by the legendary Ice-T co-founded by Ernie C due to a love of metal). Released on November 22, 2024, the album showcases the mix-up of rap, metal, and punk to bring a sound that appeals to more than one set of listeners. Body Count’s current member lineup consists of Ice-T (Vocals), Ernie C (Guitar), Sean E Sean (Guitar, Backing Vocals), Juan “Juan of the Dead” Garcia (Guitar), Vincent Price (Bass), Will “Ill Will” Dorsey Jr. (Drums) and “Little Ice” (Vocals).
Highlighted songs that stand out to me on this album are “Psychopath”, “Fuck What You Heard”, “Live Forever” and the surprising cover of “Comfortably Numb” a Pink Floyd classic. “Psychopath” was actually the gateway song for me getting into Body Count with it being one of the first songs I was introduced to since hearing that song I was sold. With Body Count being very emotionally led in their lyrics covering and addressing social issues, life, and a general outlook on day-to-day life there is something on this album that appeals to all those who are willing to listen and enjoy this. I’d say this album in a way could appeal to both Rap lovers and Metal heads alike from all walks of life.
The album features guest artist appearances from George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher from Cannibal Corpse, Joe Badolato from Fit For An Autopsy, and David Gilmour from Pink Floyd on the track “Comfortably Numb” and I have to say, what great choices to have featured on this album – It was a right treat!
Having personally seen Body Count back in July 2024 (Click >> HERE << to read my review!) I felt that I needed to review this album myself. I mean, let’s check out their new stuff right?Overall, I’d rate the album 9/10, the ONLY reason that it did not score a 10/10 is the fact that although the album is great don’t get me wrong I felt that there was just something missing that didn’t quite allow me to rate this 10/10. I felt it was missing something that left the album feeling a bit incomplete and possibly a couple of steps away from that perfect score, needless to say, though this does not mean the album was bad. I did enjoy it and would happily sit and listen through this again.
Score 9/10
