Cassidy Paris – Bannermans – Edinburgh – 18/07/2024 – Live Review
19th July 2024It was warm in the gorgeous Scottish Capital last night, so warm that hopefully, it made the Aussie, Cassidy Paris feel a bit more at home.
The last time I saw Miss Cassidy live was when she supported Wicked Smile a couple of years ago. She was quite shy and timid at that time and suited to being in a support slot cutting her teeth as a solo artist. Tonight, she’s in a different league.
Cassidy prowled around the stage like she owned it. Her stagecraft has come along immeasurably. She was flawless, as was the band. Comprising of Tom Rogowski (guitar), Alex Rogowski (drums), and Stevie Janevski on bass did a spectacular job of backing her. They were as tight as the lug nuts on my first car.
Of course, she’s here promoting her debut album Midnight Desire so the set was littered with tracks from the album (Danger, Addicted, Walking On Fire, and Stand just to name a few) but there were some curveballs thrown in. My personal fave is Give Me Your L. O. V. E. It’s a belting rock n roll tune as it is but live, holy fuck it’s orgasmic.
A stunning version of the Joan Jett classic I Hate Myself For Loving You was especially good. Joan Jett herself would have been proud. Every track she performed took on a new life and was fabulous.Cassidy Paris has a tremendous live voice. It is more suited to being live as opposed to in the studio. It’s less polished, more gritty, and has a lot more power.
