Caveman TV: Only Prog, Folk, Blues, Hippie, Post Punk and Calypso album you need in 2023

Caveman TV is the name of the band that initially formed around the partnership of Tony Reeves and JC Carroll. The album ‘Caveman TV’ is released on 5 May 2023 on CADIZ MUSIC. The lead track from the album, made available the same day, will be Anarchy In the UK – Uilleann Pipe Folk Version’.  This album is a blend of Prog steeped in a gumbo of Folk, Blues, Hippie, Post Punk and Calypso! The title track is a wonderful evocative song about lying on your back in the Pyrenees looking at the shooting stars in August. It is supported by a video of the band blended with shots of the Pyrenees and Stonehenge …

The band began playing together in 2012, after meeting at a jam in the cellar bar of the Constitution Club in Camden. This unlikely partnership between Jazz Rock and Prog legend Reeves, and film composer and Post Punk guitarist Carroll is one of those partnerships that on paper should not work, but on stage is fantastic. Add to this mix The Only Ones guitarist and super session man John (‘Another Planet’) Perry and drummer Nick Cash (The Members and Fad Gadget ) and you get an eclectic and very special blends.

Tony Reeves (and his century-old double bass) bring an incredible six decades of experience and some serious grooves and solos. This is the man who helped rewrite English folk music with the ground-breaking folk-blues-and-beyond innovator Davy Graham. Tony was also briefly a Bluesbreaker with John Mayall, he pioneered orchestral rock playing on ‘Cast Your Fate To The Wind’, and helped invent Jazz Fusion and Prog Rock with Colosseum, Greenslade and Curved Air.

JC Carroll is known to all as “Mr Sound Of The Suburbs” but the driving force behind The Members is a passionate folk archivist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter whose talents are not easily contained in one band. His film CV includes work with Marlon Brando, Johnny Depp, and five Film scores for Julien Temple.

Adding yet more into this mix is the West Country maverick guitarist John Perry, who cut his teeth supporting Hawkwind. John rewrote New Wave and Punk with the searing solo that introduces ‘Another Girl Another Planet’ and has added his guitar firepower work by Johnny Thunders, Evan Dando, Alejandro Escovedo and countless others. More recently, he contributed to Chip Baker’s soundtrack for the Brian Jones film.

Current Members drummer Nick Cash provides the back beat and locks down the Caveman TV grooves.

Caveman TV is the sort of album that could only be made in England, and fuses whimsical lyrics and a plangent folk rock yearning… Caveman TV should also carry a health warning as it contains bass solos.
