Cherrie Curry – The Final UK Tour – 26th November 2024 – Bannermans, Edinburgh
27th November 2024 0 By Jon DeauxThis night was always destined to be emotional, as it marked the final performance of former Runaways vocalist Cherie Currie at Bannermans in Edinburgh.
Currie demonstrated that her voice and stage presence remain as dynamic as ever. She performed hits from The Runaways alongside solo tracks like “Rock ‘n’ Roll Rosie,” creating a perfect blend of nostalgia and raw energy.
A touching tribute to Runaways drummer Sandy West, who sadly passed away in 2006, featured a performance of “Wild Thing,” the song that Sandy traditionally performed live during her time with the band.
The crowd, a mix of long-time fans and newcomers, adored Currie’s punk-infused charisma and undeniable rock-star grit. If Suzi Quatro is the QUEEN of Rock ‘n’ Roll, then Cherie Currie is certainly the PRINCESS.
This event was not just a trip down memory lane; it was a celebration of her extraordinary music career, with a fresh and relevant set. It reminded everyone why she has been described as the “lost daughter of Iggy Pop and Brigitte Bardot.”
The evening culminated with the inevitable “Cherry Bomb.” and after an impressive 17-song set, we bid a fond yet tearful farewell to this iconic vocalist and frontwoman.
There was no better way to conclude nearly 50 years in the industry than with tonight’s live show at the legendary Bannermans.
