Cremisi : Lustizia – CD Review

It’s not often I get asked to review an album released almost several years ago. Though the Italian symphonic metal act came highly recommended to me so it would be rude to pass up on it, right? Who knows, I may even enjoy it! So, what is 2022’s “Lustizia” all about?

The classical influence in ‘Soaring In The Wind’ is impossible to ignore, with the principle riff being a transposition of the famous Asturias riff. Fans of progressive rock will be satiated by the Dream Theater vibes, whether it’s the soaring lead vocals and aesthetic melodies, underpinned by a solid and densely layered rhythm section here and throughout the album.

How about more of a folky/medieval piece that will make you want to dance and chug a few tankards of ale? If so, ‘Sono il tuo Sogno Eretico‘ is for you. I don’t speak a word of Italian but I could hear myself singing along to this, somehow! I’m sure others would after a few drinks.This folk-like epic feel continues in ‘Ancient Wonder’. We all love a good ballad and history lesson within a metal anthem, right? That’s what we get here, and now that it’s in English I can connect and become invested!

‘Abyss’ rounds off the album with what may be a little bit of a cheesy power metal-inspired number. A solid respectable effort but whilst there’s no need to reinvent the wheel, offer something a little different maybe? This is how I’d sum up the album; an impressive and respectable effort in isolation, but in the wider context of the genre not really challenging any boundaries or proving to disrupt the established order.
