DEAD CHIC Launch Brand new video for single ‘Good God’ Taken from their recently released EP ‘The Venus Ballroom’
31st October 2023‘Good God’ is the final track taken from DEAD CHIC’s critically acclaimed EP ‘The Venus Ballroom’ which was released in March. A brand new video will be released for the track on 31 October with a UK tour announced for March.
French/English DEAD CHIC debuted in 2022 with their first single ‘Too Far Gone’ which was described by Rolling Stone France as “…a mixture of heavy rock and soul, cinematic and brilliantly orchestrated”. The band originally started as a coming together of Andy Balcon of Heymoonshaker and Damien Felix of Catfish who also founded and produced Bigger. Between them, they have forged a sound driven by the gruff, captivating, and powerful vocal of Balcon whilst underpinned by Felix’s production creating an emotive sound that conjures images brilliantly described as… a dark ceremony at the foothills of a fuzzy Morricone landscape.
‘Good God’, opens with intimate chords, building to an exhilarating summit with Balcon’s vocal painting and emotive landscape. Profiting from (band member) Mathis Akengin’s brass arrangement the track evokes feelings of heartbreaking distress and demonstrates the band’s emotional power and their impressive ability to reach deep down and take the listener with them into a storm.
ABOUT DEAD CHIC
DEAD CHIC is a four-piece ensemble composed of Andy Balcon (Heymoonshaker), Damien Felix (Catfish/Bigger) Mathis Akengin (Emea), and Remi Ferbus (Kimberose/Mika).
It was during tours with Balcon and Felix’s respective groups that they met a few years ago, crossing paths regularly on the road and meeting backstage to discuss music, art, and a hypothetical collaboration.
A few years pass without them meeting again. In the Autumn of 2020, their paths crossed with a stepping-stone collaboration to be featured in Rolling Stone (Fr). The idea of working together then becomes serious and after a few exchanges the single ‘Too Far Gone’ arrives. DEAD CHIC was born! They were then joined by Februs on drums and Akengin on keyboards.
In April 2022 they recorded their first studio EP ‘The Venus Ballroom’ at the mythical Black Box Studio, under the guidance of Peter Deimel (Anna Calvi, The Kills, Last Shadow Puppets). Four days of intense takes, recorded on tape, to pay tribute to the group’s live power.
Mixed by Flavien Van Landuyt, ‘The Venus Ballroom’ – their first studio EP – delivers six tracks charged with fervor and emotion, a real panorama with rich songwriting and production that is both rough and refined.
