Dream Alazia – Hostage EP – Review

Dream Alazia – Hostage EP – Review

13th May 2025 0 By Jon Deaux

When I first slipped into my thigh-high patent platforms and hit play on Hostage, I wasn’t ready. I thought I was just going to sip my Monster Ultra Black, toss on a little glitter, maybe tease a wig. But no, Dream Alazia dragged me into a nu-metalcore fever dream, tied me to a dungeon chair with guitar strings, and whispered breakdowns into my ear until I couldn’t tell if I was headbanging or having a spiritual awakening.

01. Hostage // Half Dead
This opener kicks down the door like a toxic ex with a vengeance and a fully loaded pedalboard. That scream? It snatched my lash glue clean off. The chorus comes in like a wave of mascara tears under strobe lights—full of pain, poise, and just enough melody to keep you trembling in the best way. There’s something theatrical here, something raw, like the gasping sob between your third vodka soda and texting her again.

02. Affiliate My Anguish
Now this is where it goes feral. The riffs grind like stilettos on a concrete floor, and those vocals? Somewhere between a banshee in crisis and a dominatrix with a mic. It’s giving emotional instability in five acts. And the breakdown? Oh, sweetie. It dropped harder than my tuck during a death drop. Chaos. Delicious chaos. It screams, “I’ve been emotionally unavailable since 2014, and here’s why.”

03. Labyrinth
Moody, haunting, and full of twisty turns—just like my dating history. This track pulls back the lashes and gets vulnerable. The layering here? Like a flawless highlight blended over three layers of trauma. Synths creep in like secrets you thought you buried, and when the heaviness hits, it’s not just aggressive—it’s cathartic. A sonic slow dance with your inner saboteur. .

04. Flatline
We end where all bad habits do—flat on your back, mascara-streaked, screaming into the void. This closer is pure metalcore melodrama, If Bring Me the Horizon went through a breakup and discovered astrology, then this is what they’d come up with. The tempo shifts hit like mood swings. It’s angry, it’s anguished, it’s everything I want when I need to cry, scream, and reapply eyeliner in the mirror like it’s a music video.
