Electric Boys – Bannermans, Edinburgh 31st August 2022
1st September 2022 0 By Jon DeauxBack in the historic city of Edinburgh in good ol Scotland to witness the Stockholm masters of psychedelic funk rock Electric Boys perform.
Kicking off proceeding with the 7 minute instrumental Upside Down Theme from the album Ups!de Down and jumping straight into Super God. This was a sign of a band who were out for fun and yet not taking any prisoners.
Vocalist Conny Bloom was in fine fettle, his voice still powerful and emotive and the way he plays his beatup Stratocaster is effortless especially the way he transitions to play slide solos.
Tumblin’ Dominoes from Ups!de Down was incredible and one of my favorites from that album. However, for me, Mary In The Mystery World was the highlight of the night as it turned into a full on jam. Conny and lead guitarist Martin “Slim” Thomander were other worldly together whist drummer Niklas Sigevall and bassist Andy “A.C.” Christell locked in to keep the beat steady whilst both guitarists got caught in the moment and went off on tangents. Quite simply amazing.
Finishing with Lips n Hips the audience was spent and my voice was raw.
Jame Purkiss who took care of the front of house for the venue sound made sure the band sounded top notch (and they did).
This is the 2nd time I’ve been lucky enough to witness the Electric Boys in a small club environment and one again they didn’t disappoint. They certainly left Edinburgh Electrified.
