FATE’S HOLLOW RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM “THE HEIR APPARITION PART I – BROKEN CROWNS”.

2nd September 2024 0 By Laura Jane

It’s been a hot moment since I checked in with Fate’s Hollow, I don’t know if you remember them but they were featured in DISCOVER back on 17th November 2023. Fate’s hollow is Reece Warburton, James Glenn, Tom West and Kyle Larkin. I was joined by Reece Warburton to catch up on how things are going and for some exciting news! A BRAND NEW SPANKING FULL DEBUT ALBUM THAT IS AVAILABLE ON TUESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER ENTITLED THE HEIR APPARITION PART I – BROKEN CROWNS.

Their debut full-length record, and the first half of a double concept album, Broken Crowns is a narrative-driven collection of songs following the story of a young Prince through his death, rebirth, and revenge on the man who killed him. Part I introduces us to the world and people of this universe, beginning with the Prince’s betrayal at the hands of a close ally, through the aftermath of his death, and ending with his resurrection.

Heavily inspired by 1960s science fiction, 1980s pop rock, musical theater and modern day alternative rock music, Broken Crowns has a distinct sonic identity that ebbs and flows with the story it tells. From the epic six minute opening track right through to the slow, moody acoustic closing notes, Fate’s Hollow have designed every moment of this album to bring you into their fictional world.

Fans of bands such as Coheed & Cambria, The Dear Hunter and Thrice will find much to like about this album.

So, Reece – Can you share the inspiration behind the new album?

Reece: About a year ago, we had been working on our set and one of the songs we had written was the “king and the killer”, when I wrote that I had just seen dune and had really been into dune so wrote this, originally – it was about Dune. An adaption of Dune in song form. It eventually became it’s own thing and through changes ended up it’s own thing. I tried tying these into the other songs and it just worked! It took the guys a bit to get their head around it as they’re not concept album guys but they grew to like it. But primarily — it started by me watching Dune, but not in rip off territory. In my defense, you wouldn’t find a sci-fi movie that wasn’t inspired by Dune in the last 50 years.

How would you describe the sound and style of this album compared to your previous work since we last spoke in November 2023?

Reece: I believe it has changed, yeah – we only had 5-6 songs back at the time however we have so many more now. With Fates hollow until the member line up had been solidified I didn’t know how wacky we could get with it and how progressive we could really push it.The music has definitely gotten a bit more out there and changed in complexity since November.

Were there any particular challenges you faced during the production of this album?

Reece: Not to the lead up of the album, it was pretty solid going into it but during the production we had some issues. Originally the album was suppose to be 12 songs but we decided to go for a double album.

Would you share some of the issues?

Reece: We crowd funded this project and successfully covered 50% of the cost, which was amazing. The album was crowdfunded on the indiegogo platform in March, raising over £1300. We did record it bit weird looking back, some was recorded in studio and some was recorded from home. It was very weird experience. Half way through the album we had a line up change and had a dilemma that we needed drum tracks which was stressful. With no creative directive towards this aspect of the process, there were some decisions we had to make. I believe that when we do it again, it’ll be a lot more organised fashion. It took 4 months to finish, end of the day it was a learning experience. We’re not young people but we’re a new band and a lot of stuff we had to learn that we will not make again in future in part 2.

Can you share any memorable moments or stories from the recording sessions?

Reece: For me the biggest memorable moment is when we first starting recording it we had to prio some songs, a local radio station had chosen us as artist of the week, but required 3 tracks to put on air — one of those songs was lost songs (our second single) when we first started producing stuff we didn’t know what the vibe or sound of this album was going to be. I thought it would be a good idea to put some synth in this, i’d been reading stranger things and had 80’s on the brain. I hadn’t told the rest of the guys until end of the day when sending them a preview – there were little moments like this throughout like discovering things and finding ways to add strings or new guitar parts or small tweaks to make the album a bit more dramatic. This was a lot of fun.

So a launch party upcoming, I bet you’re excited. What can fans expect from the album release party?

Reece: We’ve put a lot of thought into this, we chose the venue strategically. Lock 91, Deansgate Manchester – It’s a lovely venue that’s usually used for wedding venues. We’re playing the album from start to finish plus maybe a few other surprises. We’ll be going through the album in its entirety.

Minds / Apperitia both local bands and good fits for us and we’re super happy to have them on. It’s been a big team effort – one of our friends from another local band is helping with lighting and got someone to do sound production.

How did you decide on the venue?

Reece: It was down to promoters, when we were looking through venues – deaf institute was one of our first choices but the maths didn’t maths for that so we were in a state of limbo not knowing where to choose. We were suggested Lock 91 and when looking at it, it felt right.

Are there plans for a tour following the album release?

Reece: I’m a bit iffy at using the word tour as the dates are not very close, but the rest of the year we’re going to be all over the place. September alone with have Manchester, Leeds and Lancaster then into October we’ve got Blackpool, Manchester and finishing the year in Huddersfield.

How does it feel to finally release this album to the world?

Reece: It’s great but terrifiying, with how long it spent living it — writing, recording and producing. I’ve had the album ready for 6 weeks and i’m very proud of it. I think it’s very strong and when the 2nd part is out and the whole vision is there, it will really work but I am terrified as it’s out of our hands now and is out to the public. It exists and has been sent off to press and reviewers. Indigogo backers have started giving feedback after receiving digital products and we’re getting amazing feedback. Waiting to see what people think about it is the scary thing.

As you know and have experienced, I like to leave all interactions on a high note. Is a gingerbread man made of house, or is his house made of flesh?

Reece: Who made the house? I think most sense would be that he is made out of house, but it’s still confusing, there is no context. Who made him. A very Lovecraftian outlook on it.

Fate’s Hollow are very proud to present their debut album, THE HEIR APPARITION PART I – BROKEN CROWNS. They  will be celebrating this loud and proud and in person with their ALBUM LAUNCH show at Lock 91 Manchester on Sunday 8th September. Tickets are available >> HERE <<.

Fate’s Hollow will continue the story with Part II, which is currently in the early writing stages.

The album’s cover art is a digital painting by artist Adam Stone.
