FOUR YEAR STRONG – ANALYSIS PARALYSIS ALBUM REVIEW

FOUR YEAR STRONG – ANALYSIS PARALYSIS ALBUM REVIEW

15th February 2025 0 By Laura Jane

Firstly, let’s go into the background of Four Year Strong, who exactly are they? Four Year Strong was formed in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 2001 by Dan O’Connor. I feel personally the band was known at their peak during 2007 when they released ‘Rise Or Die Trying‘  on the 18th of September and these were some glory days with every track from this album oozing nostalgia when they come on my playlist even now in 2025. I say this with the slight evidence of this being a truth universally acknowledged (Hello Bridget Jones quote?) due to the band dedicating their 10th Anniversary World Tour in an ode to ‘Rise Or Die Trying’. Fast forwarding to 2024, the band released their latest anticipated album “Analysis Paralysis“, which was released on August 9, 2024.

Analysis Paralysis” consists of 12 songs with a run time of 35 minutes 29 seconds which for the amount of tracks featured on this album is pretty short in comparison to a lot of other bands of a similar genre. Four Year Strong stays strong to their pop punk roots which is fabulous to see. When first listening to the album on release I felt a nostalgic wave although it’s not as ‘playful’ as their previous stuff and does come across a lot more mature in lyrical depth and composition still has a fun overtone and dare I say it, in some ways slightly ‘heavier’ than a lot of their previous releases. I say heavier loosely as I would never categorize Four Year Strong as a heavy band but in comparison to their vast discography, it does have a bite here and there of some heavier aura.

Notable tracks on the album for me would be ‘Daddy of Mine‘, ‘Paranoia‘, and the more melodic track choice of ‘How Do I Let You Go?‘.

The band released their track ‘Uncooked’ which is featured on “Analysis Paralysis” in may 2024 alongside the announcement of their eighth album at this time.

Overall, I would rate this album 9/10 and the only reason it does not score a 10/10 is on the basis that although the band has shown their ability to adapt and evolve musically, I would personally have loved to see more of the ‘playful’ tones that Four Year Strong are loved and adored for. The album is a solid release and has some absolute beaut of tracks and embodies the energetic vibes that you would expect from the band however just feels like there is that small ‘OOFT’ missing from the album. Thoroughly enjoy this album and have the majority of it on my playlist and would highly recommend checking this album out in it’s entirety. It’s bold, it’s creative and seeing as this album came a good four years (get it, Four Year Strong… what irony) after their previous seventh album release ‘Brain Pain’ what a returning album to have released.
