Fracture – Dystopia: Album Review

Fracture – Dystopia: Album Review

26th January 2025 0 By Jess Mather

Fracture, a classic rock covers band formed in Gloucestershire in 2012, has built a strong reputation with an extensive catalogue of over 70 popular anthems. Over the past year, the band has been recording their debut album, ‘Dystopia ‘, which showcases the combined talents of Matt Normington (Jeebs) on lead vocals, Simon Davies (Jazzy B) on drums, Keith Simon (Keef) on bass and backing vocals, Darren Cotton (Daz) on lead guitar, and Shaun Cook (Shauny) on lead guitar and backing vocals.

The album offers a solid listening experience, with impressive performances and a cohesive sound. However, it could benefit from more emotional depth and creative innovation. The lyrics demonstrate strong storytelling but lack symbolic or metaphorical depth, and a more adventurous approach to themes would enhance the album’s impact.

While the album’s pacing is steady, it would be improved by greater variety in dynamics and improved transitions between tracks. The absence of a clear overarching theme or recurring motifs limits its thematic depth, though the band’s performances remain strong and engaging. Minor inconsistencies in pitch and dynamics don’t detract from the overall musicality, though moments of hesitation occasionally affect consistency.

Standout tracks include the title, “Dystopia”, and “Texas Sky”. At nearly seven minutes long, “Dystopia” offers plenty to enjoy, including intricate instrumental details, skilled solos, and dynamic shifts that add depth to the song. Meanwhile, “Texas Sky” has a smooth, laid-back vibe, evoking the carefree, warm atmosphere of a lazy summer day.

Replayability is bolstered by memorable hooks and relatable themes, but the album would benefit from more dynamic energy, innovative elements, and cultural references. With creative risks and more unique ideas, Fracture could elevate their artistry further.

Overall, ‘Dystopia ‘ is an enjoyable album that highlights the band’s skill and cohesion. While solid, the album could be transformed into something exceptional with deeper thematic exploration, more energy, and innovative production. Fans of classic rock will enjoy the band’s influences, drawing inspiration from iconic acts like Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, and Metallica.

Looking ahead, Fracture has big plans for 2025, including festival appearances, tour dates, and the start of their second album. Watch this space!
