Frank From Blue Velvet to release second album ‘I Am Frank’ through Property of the Lost Records on May 16th
16th April 2025East Sussex three-piece, Frank From Blue Velvet, are set to follow their 2022 self-titled debut album with a sidestep to their country punk origins. New album ‘I Am Frank’, due for release May 16th via Property Of The Lost Records, finds their revamped sound in gritty and raw form, with basslines that rumble with unfiltered intensity and drums that drive each track with pounding, relentless energy. The dark twang elements have not disappeared but if you break the surface, you will find a restless undercurrent of electronic rhythms, adding complexity and tension.
Today, the band launch a new single lifted from the album titled ‘Running Man’. Andrew J Davies’ baritone vocals help answer the question you never knew you needed to ask. What would Lee Hazlewood guesting on a Cabaret Voltaire track sound like? ‘Running Man’ does just that; brooding and atmospheric, yet building to a powerful cathartic climax, it’s a long, hard look in the mirror, striking a chord with anyone who’s ever chosen flight over fight.
Frank From Blue Velvet is a unique father-and-daughter-led collaboration, born from a journey of emotional healing and shared passion. When Andrew J Davies (the father) left the family home, the separation deeply affected the family dynamics. Ruby (the daughter) was left feeling angry and profoundly hurt, creating a rift between them. For a period, the two didn’t speak, and when they eventually did, the pain and unresolved emotions hung heavy in the air, making their interactions strained and difficult for both.Over time, however, their relationship began to mend. Their shared love of music had always connected them, but it ultimately became the bridge that brought them closer together. Ruby accepted her father’s invitation to join the band. Together with former Peter & the Test Tube Babies drummer, Og’s, they form the core trio which expands from time to time to include violin, cornet and keyboards.
Today, they not only have a stronger connection but also share the joy and excitement of creating music. Performing gigs together has given them an opportunity to bond in a way they never imagined—sharing the stage, collaborating creatively, and celebrating their shared love for music. Their journey from estrangement to collaboration serves as a testament to the healing power of time and music.
Lyrically you will follow the band down the rabbit hole of addiction, breakdowns and break ups but there is sunshine amidst the dark clouds with songs like ‘Empty’ which oozes Balearic shimmer.
