Gama Bomb – Bannermans – Edinburgh 25th October 2023
26th October 2023 0 By Jon DeauxAs I head to Bannermans for yet another show, it’s a miserable drizzly night in the Scottish capital with that ‘orrible fine rain that soaks you through.
Northern Ireland thrashers Gama Bomb are tonight’s headline act. I haven’t seen them live since 2009 during the Tales From The Grave In Space tour cycle. Don’t ask me why as I have no clue or excuse as they play Scotland on a regular basis. Which is a shame as tonight drilled it home that I really should see them as often as possible.
They were incredible. Slamming a total of 17 tracks including a couple of newbies from their upcoming album BATS (Rusted Gold and Ninja Untouchables / Untouchable Glory) as well as crowd favorites (Hammer Slammer and Mussolini Mosh)It wouldn’t be a proper Gama Bomb show without an appearance from Snowy ‘The Gamabombinable Snowman’. Although he suffers from erectile dysfunction and the lack of genitalia, tonight he also suffered from a timing problem as he finally made an entrance 3/4 of the way through Bring Out the Monster looking like he’d just returned from a hiking expedition.
The band was in fine fettle, even changing the name of Slam Anthem to DICK Anthem in honor of some poor sap asking Philly Byrne to get his willy out (in all honesty they could’ve been asking for Philly for a helping hand to find his. We shall never know.)
The crowd were also well up for getting hot and sweaty with Gama Bomb, Plenty of moshing, crowd surfing, and stage diving made for a proper old-school thrash gig vibe in Edinburgh. It was an absolute belter.
It ended up being a rather warm night in Bannermans, but so much that it dried me out, it just left me mildly moist and not in a good way.
Gama Bomb were a bit bloody good and flying the flag proudly for old school Thrash Metal. An absolute slamming band.
I can’t wait to do it all over again. Hopefully at some point next year, as their new album Bats will be out by then and the fans will be eagerly awaiting to hear tracks from that opus live.
