I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I’d be back at this venue for a show as quickly as this, but here we are again back at The Lodge, which is located on the first floor of the Deaf Institute in Manchester. The Lodge at The Deaf Institute in Manchester is renowned for its intimate and cosy atmosphere, allowing for a unique connection between performers and the audience whilst also promoting a high level of immersion within the venue.

For tonight, the lineup up consists of local uprising band Lure In, Texan hailing blackgaze band Glassing, and Seattle-originating band Great Falls. At first, when I saw the lineup, I was actually in admiration for the vast difference in genres playing, but realised all of these bands had an underlying connection… absolute chaotic noise. The night started off looking slow with a small crowd forming at the venue, which quickly picked up throughout the evening.

Up first to the stage for the evening were Lure In. I have seen these guys once before, in December 2024 at Yule Fest 2 (If you would like to hear how that went down, click >> HERE <<) , as noted in my previous experience with the band, it was nice to see the humour remained strong throughout their performance. I do have to commend their vocalist on possibly being one of the most rapid-moving vocalists I’ve seen for a while, with consistent movement throughout the front of the stage. It’s good to see bands that can bring something more than just music to the stage. It’s mesmerising to watch, and throughout their performance, you could see that these guys were enjoying themselves whilst performing their music. It’s wholesome to see, and I am living for it. To add to this opening act, there’s just something special about watching a local band have the opportunity to open for international acts, and it was a weird sense of gratification seeing Lure In open tonight and demonstrate the capabilities of Manchester’s music scene.

Following on from Lure In was Glassing. Up until about 2 weeks prior to this show, I had never heard of them and thought, you know what… Let’s do it. Let’s try something different. I checked them out on Spotify and honestly, fell in love with their vibe and was actually really excited to see them this evening. Known for their intense and immersive atmospheric performances, tonight was no exception. With the visceral, haunting vocals from Dustin Coffman, you could visibly see the audience was completely captivated and absorbing every moment of the set. I did keep looking at reactions from the crowd, as for shows of these genres, it’s always interesting to see how people react and interact with what is being shown. However, the audience’s enjoyment of the music was evident from start to finish. I believe this band would strike a chord with any fans of Deafheaven as I felt myself throughout their set, finding a lot of shared characteristics in their sound.

Closing the show for the night were Great Falls, bringing their noise-rock sound to Manchester. To me, it felt a slightly nostalgic nod to if The Dillinger Escape Plan and Poison The Well had a love child that accidentally fell into their dad’s hidden stash of Tren. I swear that’s a good thing… however obscure the wording may be. The bands’ technical skills showcased tonight were phenomenal, and they worked as a trio, both with the energy exerted and the statement of why this band is truly virtuosos in their craft. The crowd’s interest throughout their set did not seem to waver at any point throughout the evening, with the energy remaining high and the audience appearing to remain immersed in the music.

Overall, I found this gig thoroughly enjoyable; chaotic noise paired with an intimate venue space is something I don’t often experience and would strongly urge anyone to do at least once throughout their gig-attending adventures. From thunderous riffs to captivating stage presences, tonight’s lineup delivered everything one could ask for and truly covered all the bases you’d expect from the artists who were featured this evening. I, for one, am certainly excited to see how these bands move on in the future with their music and would love to catch any of the artists from tonight again without hesitation. The highlighted band for me for the evening and the award for the band who stole the show for today, would have to go to Glassing. Although all the bands did exceptionally well, there was just something about their performance that made me wish that they could continue longer than their allotted time slot. What an evening.
