Gov’t Mule – Peace…Like A River – Deluxe Edition CD Review
20th June 2023 0 By Jon DeauxGov’t Mule is quite possibly one of the most important bands since The Grateful Dead and Creedence Clearwater Revival. From their combination of ZZTop grooves (Shake Your Way Out which features Billy Gibbons) to full-on soulful blues (The River Only Flows One Way) and slow jams like the main album’s closer Gone Too Long. The inclusion of the 31minute E.P Time Of The Signs takes the running time, just over 106 minutes of pure Southern rock jam.
This is one of the rare albums in today’s market where there’s not a bad track on it. I haven’t wanted to skip a single song. Even on multiple listens. It’s even harder to pick a favorite track when I go back to it as it changes every time.
Sometimes my go-to track is Stumbleborne (the first track on the 2nd disc) because it just fills the need for that extra bit of spice to my daily soundtrack. Others it’s Just Like The River as I’m in the mood for some Atlantic-style soul.
Peace…Like A River has something for everyone with an eclectic taste.
I recommend this album, especially as it’s currently summertime, BBQ weather (correct at the time of writing), and is perfect for cranking up in the garden as you relax.
