Grace Disgraced – The Primal Cause: Womanumental
6th July 2014Grace Disgraced are a female fronted death metal band from Moscow. Last year they released the impressive debut album Enthrallment Traced, and earlier this year they released the very cool Materialized Expectation EP. When I heard that they had a new album out I jumped at the chance to review it.
And when I got my hands on the album and pressed ‘play’ I’m delighted to say that I wasn’t disappointed with what came blasting out the speakers – because The Primal Cause: Womanumental is a 7 track album of brutal death metal that does a fantastic job of combining an old-school sound with complex technical death metal song structures.
The music Grace Disgraced have created here is dark and aggressive, haunting and eerie, and almost epic in scope – the shortest track comes in at 6 minutes 49 seconds in length. This is another album where it is simply impossible to choose a favourite track because they’re all so damn good – there is no filler here and each time I listen to this I discover something new among the deep and complex music.
The musicianship is first class – with impassioned technical guitar playing, savage pounding drums, and evil sounding black metal style vocals from singer Polina Berezko.
The Primal Cause: Womanumental is an impressive album of original sounding death metal by a band that are not afraid to experiment. If you’re a fan of progressive or technical death metal then this is an album definitely worth checking out – awesome stuff !
