Graspop Announcement

13th June 2016 0 By John Deaux

The metal bash that all you metalheads are pining for is close at hand: the 21st edition of Graspop Metal Meeting kicks off in just three days’ time. If you still haven’t got your ticket yet you’re playing with hellfire so go to ticketmaster.be right now and bag your ticket for this year’s festivities.

SAFETY AT THE FESTIVAL
In recent weeks and months, extensive consultations have taken place between local and federal police authorities and local and regional governments in preparation for the festival summer. As a result of these meetings, a number of additional security measures have been agreed upon.

Small backpacks and handbags are allowed into the festival arena but will be subjected to rigorous checks. Please cooperate fully with our security staff and open your backpacks and handbags for inspection on simple request.

To access the festival arena, you will have to pass through a metal detector and you will also be asked to open your backpack or handbag to have the content checked. A fast lane will shorten the waiting time for those fans without backpacks. It is best to pack light and not bring any superfluous items. Personal belongings can be stored safely in the lockers at the main festival entrance or on Metal Boulevard.

Here is a list of items that are either allowed or prohibited at the festival.

In joint consultation, the festival organisers and the municipality of Dessel have come up with a number of additional measures for the campsite as well. You will find the full list here.

We are doing everything in our power to make sure the additional checks go as smoothly as possible so you can enjoy the festival to the full. Thank you in advance for your understanding and your spontaneous collaboration.

TRAVEL SENSIBLY
Fans travelling by TRAIN should get off at Mol railway station (at 8km from the festival site). From Mol, a free shuttle service organised by De Lijn will take you to the festival site. For just €10, festivalgoers can buy a Graspop Metal Meeting e-train ticket. This ticket covers the outward and return journey by train in 2nd class between any Belgian departure station and MOL train station. The outward and return journey must be made in the period from Thursday 16th through Monday 20th June 2016. More info at thetrain.be/graspop

Are you coming by CAR or MOTORBIKE? Keep in mind traffic around Dessel will be hectic on Thursday 16th June. Please note that a number of streets in the area will be closed to traffic. Do NOT rely on your GPS and instead follow the signs marked ‘Festival Dessel’. The car parks are all within walking distance of the festival site.  Please take the maximum number of passengers in your car. Fewer cars = shorter tailbacks = more time to rock out. Moreover, carpooling is both cosier and cheaper! You can have someone (or a taxi) drop you off in the KISS & RIDE zone on the market place of Dessel (GPS: Markt, Dessel). You can also arrange to be picked up here after the festival. The free Kiss & Ride shuttle will take you to the festival arena.

You will find more info about how to travel to the festival over here.

GOOD TO KNOW

  • Real metalheads will weather any storm. Still, it’s probably a good idea to pack for rainy conditions, so don’t forget to bring your raincoat and/or all-weather boots.
  • The true Graspop Metal Meeting experience can only be had on the festival grounds in Dessel but if you can’t be there, the best way to keep on top of the action is to watch the Proximus livestream at graspop.be.
  • Graspop Metal Meeting also follows the exploits of the Red Devils at the European Championship. The fixture between the Red Devils and the Republic of Ireland on Saturday will be broadcast live on a large screen.
  • Courtesy of Proximus, you can charge your mobile this year with a charging stick available from the Plug & Go stand, or you can use one of the charging stations dotted across the festival arena.
  • There are two free WiFi hotspots: one is next to the covered sitting area in the festival arena and the other next to the restaurant tent in the Metal Plaza.
  • No Graspop without the one and only old-skool festival guide chockfull of useful information: all opening times & stage times, a site map, band info, etc. Pick up your own festival guide at the info and merchandise stands or the kiosks.
  • Tickets are for sale at the box office while stocks last. On the day, combi tickets are €210 and day tickets cost €105. Day tickets are only available on the day as of 8 am.
  • Combi ticket holders have free access to the Metal Plaza on Thursday 16 June. However, day are only valid on the given day, viz. Friday, Saturday or Sunday, as of 8 am. No day tickets are available for Thursday 16 June.
  • In the camping shop you can buy tents, inflatable mattresses and sleeping bags, as well as some cooking accessories, toiletries and dry food. There’s a pump available right next to the camping shop. By the way, if you don’t feel like dragging all your camping gear to Dessel, you can pre-order your tent etc. at tentenzo.com. These guys will have your order ready by the time you arrive at the campsite.
TICKET INFO
Festival tickets (combi and day tickets) are still available from ticketmaster.be. Go to graspop.be/tickets for more details on ticket sales.
