The band wanted to release this statement to you last week but, out of respect to all parties involved, we decided to wait for all announcements to be simultaneous. In the end that did not happen and we deeply apologise that the fans did not hear this directly from us, that was never our intention.

Greetings to our friends around the world. As many of you know, for the last three decades, Tyketto has always been the “little engine that could”. We’ve defied the odds and managed to survive in the toughest of economic and musical climates. Unlike many of the incredible bands we’ve shared the stage with over the years, we never achieved their level of success in terms of album sales. That factor has always kept our tour budgets tight. Tyketto’s “economy” isn’t too different from any other small business: We watch our spending, (oftentimes paying tomorrow’s bills with today’s income), invest countless hours to ensure a quality product and show a passion for our enterprise that drives us even when a large payday doesn’t exist.

As most bands at our level normally do, Tyketto invested a portion of the profits from the October 2019 tour to subsidize the February Monsters of Rock travel. The Monsters revenue then helped book the May tour. The May tour revenue would then help fund the two August runs……you get the idea.

As so many of our contemporaries have recently reported on social media, the costs of international touring are astronomically high. Everything can rapidly spin out of control should anything unforeseen shake a band’s foundation.

The global uncertainty of live music gatherings hangs in the lurch and it remains unclear whether band members will be able to travel to their destinations any time soon, (or more importantly, be able to return home from them). In addition, most of the key May Tyketto shows scheduled are either canceled or in the process of canceling, leaving a gaping hole in the projected annual budgets. With no viable options, we are left with no choice but to cancel all performances. It is simply too risky on a health and financial level to be traveling in from three different countries, and with only a few weeks to go before we were to kick things off, Tyketto is simply out of time to hope things get better. We’ve managed to get a small portion of our startup expenses back for the May shows but have taken a hit on a good deal of it. With the May dates gone, we cannot properly fund the two August runs we had planned. We have every optimism that the virus will have ebbed by summer, but the May cancellations have made it financially impossible to continue touring in 2020.

Our business machine is simply wound too tightly to remove so many dates without the entire system coming to a halt. To move forward and start booking air /ground travel, hotels and crew for August would be fiscally reckless and result in Tyketto falling into a financial hole that would be very difficult to dig ourselves out of. A preemptive strategy is always the best one, and we feel it is far wiser to live to fight another day and shut down all 2020 shows, allowing us to properly regroup for a rescheduled 2021 tour.

It’s mind boggling to see just how quickly life can change, and sometimes the wisest decisions are the hardest to make. Where possible, we implore you to wait for a reschedule announcement before requesting refunds. In addition to us looking forward to seeing you at the shows. this will help keep the venue owners, agents and promoters afloat to get to the other side of this crisis. For the first time in our lives, the global community is in this together, in every sense of the word.
