Interview with mighty vocal powerhouse and “Blues Metal Queen” –  ANDRY

10th January 2025 0 By Jon Deaux
“The missing link between Ronnie James Dio and Christina Aguilera”. That’s how Athens born Andry Lagiou describes herself as a vocalist. A former runner-up on The Voice of Greece and frontwoman of The Harps, she is now a well-known name on the international metal scene as ‘ANDRY’. Her highly anticipated debut album “Skies” was released last year through her own record label Baby Mistress Records. The first single, also called Skies, is also out now: available on all streaming platforms via The Orchard. She also completed a successful tour with the band Kings of Thrash across Europe.
We decided to find out more about the incredible Andry:
Hi there Andry! Where do we find you today?
Hello! I’m currently in Athens GREECE.What lit the fire for your single “Skies”? What’s the story or vibe behind it?

The inspiration behind the song is based on pure emotions of constant abuse the freedom that will be brought, and the truth that will shine.
Either it has to do with female abuse child abuse internal confusion or even slavery. I had in mind, basically, female abuse and financial-political deception, rich and poor, and how it evolves throughout the years. Good thing about my songs is that people can interpret their own stories and meanings, and relate to them. After all, when you hear a story each one has a different imagery of what it is.

Any cool twists or challenges you faced?

yes, Men. One word answer have you ever had this?

Can you tell us about Your album “Skies” – What’s the big idea or theme running through it?

Empowerment, Female emancipation, and self-worth. I’m always an observer of life and through fairy tales real-life stories and perception I make my own conclusion
and then incorporate it into one big play. Mistress of the Night is the woman every man should be scared of. I believe witches never existed. It was always men’s jealousy that
women could be smarter than them this is why they burnt them at the stake. Still these times women are considered an object and not human being. Look around you in the World matter how much they try it’s always 100 years back.

What’s your favorite track and why?
I would say Olive Tree speaks to my heart but as a power favorite song, I would go with GOOD TRIP TO HELL. I really mean what I say on this one.

How was it hitting the road with Kings of Thrash? Are there any epic moments from the tour?

Yes, many Cool stories it was very successful and even though I was the only female performer and in between thrashers people welcomed my music with so much warmth.
I created a skull prop ”JANE’ before the show in the UK while the others had their soundcheck, and Dave had facemasks in the tour bus ( I impose that it’s my rule haha )
The tour bus caught on fire in England. Johan, my manager was driving me with his car behind the tour bus cause I couldn’t always sleep in there. Thank God because we used the car to fit in our equipment to play Athens, and the tour bus left us to drive to Milan.I mean this adventure who could forget ?! I had this crazy idea to create a Jackson photoshoot for Dave, Marko, Mick, and Chaz it was fun. Blaze Bayley was at two of my shows, the guys took photos with him and at some point when I was backstage with my white robe on he approached and said to me ” nice Horns ” I said thanks. haha. The sold-outs outs of course were amazing to see so many people screaming! crazy stories on the road, happy and sad but overall a great big journey.

How did the crowds vibe with your performances on tour? Any differences compared to your past gigs?

Yes huge! The crowd was insane headbanging and many of them already knew my songs. They came prepared it seems, I like that. I sold more Vinyl than ever which means people are going back to the old-fashioned but best product.

Every tour’s got its ups and downs. What were some challenges you’ve faced ?

The nightliner (small got me dizzy af,bunks are like coffins, it reminded me of the final moment) the bus that caught on fire one night, I almost died in London by a car (traumatic), Sound-wise many times soundcheck was tiresome, we rented backline again or some shows and had to carry much stuff, no makes up rooms and i didn’t have my privacy as a woman to dress up.I needed two hours for myself to be focused and get ready and I didn’t have the time or the space. but most importantly the Cold!! I get sick easily as a diabetic and I had to buy a heater and carry it with me non-stop. And of course the pretty obvious toilet showers in bad condition .. sharing with two bands and the crew brutal.  had to take a few hotels here and there.

How do you connect with your fans during shows and online? Are any fan moments that stand out?
Well I don’t have the time to connect with each one personally but I try to give my hand while on stage and to take a quick photo. yes, a little girl in Svolen – very sweet and beautiful. She was so shy waiting for me alone at the stairs,  to come down and take a pic. That was cute.

How do you juggle touring, recording, and running your label, Baby Mistress Records?
Welcome to the one-woman show! like I sew my clothes,  design, write songs, orchestrate, create video clips etc etc  .

What does 2025 have in store for you?

Only 2025 knows and God. If it’s worthwhile I will jump on another tour. So far September seems a good month to headline a few festivals I’ve been invited.

Also- throw away question: dream dinner party: who would you invite (can be alive or dead) and why? What would be on the menu?!

I like that one. hmmm Dio,Freddie , Christina Aguilera, Whitney, and my yiayia who left me early. Yiayia and I would cook I guess make it cozy and personal. Greek food with gourmet nuance accompanied by rose Miraval.

Thanks for speaking to us!
thank you too !
