KNOCKED LOOSE – YOU WON’T GO BEFORE YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO ALBUM REVIEW

19th December 2024 0 By Laura Jane

I was going through my current playlists and saw that Knocked Loose has been high up there for bands that have had too much playtime for my liking and I thought “oh my god, I totally missed doing a review on their latest album – how unprofessional of me being a fan of theirs and the likes” – so here it is. Finally, only a few months late *cough* I present to you the “You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To – Knocked Loose” album review.

“You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To” was released on 10th May 2024 under Pure Noise Records. After their recent appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel show earlier in the month to promote this album and perform their track “Suffocate” featuring Poppy they have been at the forefront of a lot of conversations and a band who have quickly gained some exposure from their performance of bringing “metal” to mainstream TV alongside letting out an absolute REEEEEE  a pig squeal on national TV.

For those who are unfamiliar with Knocked Loose, they are an American hardcore punk/metalcore band from Oldham County, Kentucky originally formed in 2013 under the name Manipulator. The band’s current member lineup is Bryan Garris (vocals), Isaac Hale (guitarist), Nicko Calderon (guitar), Kevin Otten (bass), and Kevin “Pacsun” Kaine (drums). Knocked Loose has also shared the stage with some titans in the metal scenes such as Slipknot, Stick to Your Guns, Rotting Out, A Day To Remember, Alien Weaponry, and many more.

Bryan Garris, the band’s lead vocalist, has described their sound as being “sandwiched between hardcore and metalcore”, although he has stated that the band’s intention was to produce a diverse sound that was difficult to categorize.

Notable tracks on this album for me are “Blinding Faith”, “Take Me Home” and “Slaughterhouse 2 (ft. Chris Motionless)” and  “Suffocate (ft. Poppy)” Although this album lacks tracks with ARF ARF value it makes up for it in a whole different way. It’s good to see a development and evolution also in Knocked Looses’ musical style, it shows how adaptive they are with each track remaining in the roots of a high-energy fusion of hardcore punk and metalcore elements. Let’s just take a second to go over the collaborations featured in this album from both Poppy and Chris Motionless, both of these artists add distinctive dynamics that compliment Bryan Garris’ raw and powerful delivery throughout the album.

Overall I actually rate this album as one of my favorite albums released in 2024, it seats itself a solid place in the top 10 in fact. I believe that even though Bryan Garris is memeingly dubbed the “SpongeBob Square Pants of metal vocalists” it is clear with this experimental input of vocal styles on this album. It’s great to see, we love it. As mentioned above in notable tracks Slaughterhouse 2 is a perfect example to bolster the opinion of the band’s growth and willingness to experiment while staying true to their roots. I would highly recommend giving this album a full listen-through (multiple times to be honest, it’s ace) with a full run time of 27 minutes 33 seconds it’s not a lengthy album to go through.
