Luke, Kaileb and James of BLANKTALK Drop by AATR HQ for a chat

Emerging feom the dimly lit basements of Norfolk , this atmospheric rock band is rapidly gaining traction and is one to watch. Their sound is a swirling vortex of reverb drenched guitars and ethereal vocals, hardens back to the genres pioneers like my bloody valentine with an injection of a modern twist. Tracks like To The Bone showcase their mastery of creating immersive soundscapes.

With a newly growing fanbase and captivating performances it won’t be long before these guys are on the road to festivals across the UK showcasing their abilities to the masses.
We managed to pin them down at AATR headquarters for a chat.
Tell us a little bit about the background of your band BLANKTALK.
“BLANKTALK was a solo project started by Kaileb, originally to stay as a solo project. After putting a couple of songs out, and a rehearsal as session musicians, myself and James really enjoyed the the ideas of what was being projected. After the first rehearsal, Kaileb invited us to join as equal members and the rest is history!”
Which artists have shaped your songwriting styles the most?
“We all bring different influences on board, however, we could arguably say it’s bands such as Interpol, Editors, and My Bloody Valentine that we take the most inspiration from when writing new tracks. Anything with some reverb on, we are all over it!”
How much time would you typically spend on writing a song,  and do all band members get input into the songs?
“I would say we are still creating our workflow due to being so new to the scene. So far we have found that our best work has been bringing certain riffs or melodies into rehearsal and then building onto them through jamming out said parts”
When in the song writing process what sparks an idea for you? A melody? A feeling?
“For us, it seems that our ideas flow from a baseline. Kaileb and James have an interesting way that they write, Where the bass plays lead and guitar plays the root notes/chords. This has led us to discovering some interesting sounds across the board.
You’re currently working on new music at the moment, can you let anything slip about it??
“We have lots of new music on the way! Rehearsals have been super productive at the moment, so without saying too much, we are very excited to show everyone what we’ve been up to!”
Are there any songs that you guys are particularly excited about playing?
“There are actually a couple of tracks that we hope to have done by the summer, but again, cant say too much!
Are there any significant meanings to the songs that you have written that you can tell us about? & When people listen to your music what do you hope they will take away from your music?
“Run For The Hills was written about Kaileb’s time away from home at university, and how leaving home away from his family affected him, as well as general meaning of longing for nostalgic moments! Besides this, its really important to us that people feel like they can take their own meaning from our songs!
What shows have you guys got lined up that you can tell us about?
“We are headlining the Brickmakers in Norwich on the 13th of April, as we all supporting a wicked band called “Slung” at Voodoo Daddy’s on the 17th of May!
Thanks for taking time out of your schedule to chat to All About The Rock Today!
