One of the best things about writing for All About The Rock is discovering bands you’ve never heard of.  Craig knows I’m a big fan of thrash and death metal, so when the new Madrost album came in he swiftly passed it my way.

Madrost is a four piece thrash metal / crossover band from California and Into The Aquatic Sector is the band’s secod album (the first was 2012’s well received Maleficient).

Opening with the atmospheric and eerie instrumental number, ‘The Unknown‘, things then kick off with ‘Frozen Beneath The Snow‘ – a pounding juggernaut of a track that has some awesomely catchy riffs, snarling vocals and totally kicks ass – from the moment it started I knew I was going to love this album!

Universal Energy‘ and ‘Operation Xenomorphic Protocol‘ carry on in the same vein and the band show what talented musicians they are – the song writing is excellent; and the guitar playing, drumming, and vocals are all first class.

‘The Oceanic Prelude‘ is a short acoustic instrumental piece that breaks things up nicely before ‘Subterranean Nightmare‘ provides some brutal full speed ahead crossover metal that I couldn’t help but headbang along to.  Title track, ‘Into The Aquatic Sector‘ is relentless and full on, but has moments with a more melodic edge that compliment the rest of the track nicely.

Final track, ‘Depravity‘ has more of a death metal sound to it, but retains the same vibe and overall sound as the rest of the album.  It’s a great ending to a great album, with my only complaint being that the album isn’t longer.

This is an incredible album – and if you’re a fan of old school thrash / crossover you definitely need to check this out – awesome stuff !!
