Monumentum Damnati – From Beyond: Album Review

Monumentum Damnati – From Beyond: Album Review

2nd June 2025 0 By Jon Deaux

I’ve just been politely obliterated by From Beyond, the new album from Monumentum Damnati, and it’s like Dracula joined a gym, got jacked, and started screaming poetry into a megaphone made of cursed rib bones.

This is eleven tracks of what I can only describe as Victorian funeral-core, if someone dumped it in a tar pit, strapped it to a rocket, and screamed Latin at it until it came alive and asked for a cigarette.

It’s loud, mean, and it’s weirdly romantic in the way dead flowers can be romantic if you’re standing in the rain with eyeliner running into your mouth.

Guitars sound like buzzsaws made of wet teeth. Drums are probably recorded by nailing a demon to a trampoline. And the vocals sound like a cathedral being crushed under the emotional weight of a thousand unread love letters. It’s not singing. It’s… summoning.

Lyrically, it’s crawling with things that probably shouldn’t be crawling: mythological nightmares, Lovecraft leftovers, Edgar Allan Poe trying to claw his way out of a coffin he willingly climbed into. There’s a fog around every lyric like it’s afraid to be seen in full light, which is fair. I wouldn’t want daylight on this thing either.

The whole album moves like a haunted marionette—spasming, elegant, deliberate, but you know something’s wrong with the way it walks. Faster than their older stuff, too. Less mournful dirge, more “possessed metronome having a crisis.”

Somewhere around Vulture Eye, I stopped taking notes and just stared at the wall for a while. Not in a bad way. In a “wow, that wallpaper pattern is moving” kind of way. Still can’t explain that.

Would I recommend it?. To some people. To the ones who like their music like they like their dreams: fevered, decaying, occasionally sexy in a way you don’t wanna unpack.
