Nick Mason’s solo albums to be released as individual LPs and CDs for the first time since their original releases
2nd May 2024 0 By Jon DeauxFor the first time since their original release, Nick Mason’s solo albums, ‘Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports’, ‘Profiles’, and ‘White of the Eye’ will be available as individual LPs and CDs. All are to be released on 7 June and they can be pre-ordered now from here.
‘Nick Mason’s Fictitious Sports’ is Nick’s debut solo album and his first work outside of Pink Floyd. Originally released in 1981, it saw him collaborate with a variety of different musicians including Robert Wyatt and Carla Bley. The album was recorded in 1979 at a session booked in America where Nick, Carla and Robert were going to bring their ideas together, but ahead of the trip, Carla sent Nick a demo cassette… “It was very different from what she had done before and absolutely in line with what I like” commented Nick in 2012… and it went on to be the nucleons of the album.
‘Profiles’ is Nick’s first collaboration with 10cc guitarist Rick Fenn and was his second album outside of Pink Floyd. Released in 1985 as ‘Mason + Fenn’, it is mainly an instrumental album except for tracks ‘Lie for a Lie’, which features vocals from Maggie Reilly and former bandmate David Gilmour and ‘Israel’, sung by UFO keyboardist Danny Peyronel.
‘White of the Eye’ is the soundtrack of a British thriller movie of the same name. Originally released in 1987, Nick once again collaborated with Rick Fenn and it was released in conjunction with the film’s release.
Nick Mason is one of the biggest-selling artists of all time. A co-founding member of Pink Floyd, he is the only constant member of the group, performing on all of their albums as well as all of their live shows. In May 2018, Nick debuted his new band Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets alongside Guy Pratt, Gary Kemp, Lee Harris and Dom Beken playing early Pink Floyd material. They were met with huge critical acclaim and have since toured the world indulging fans in some of the bands most experimental music much of which had never been played live before.
Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets tour the UK this June.
