Paleface Swiss – Cursed Album Review

Paleface Swiss – Cursed Album Review

3rd January 2025 0 By Laura Jane

It’s here, the first 2025 release that I’ll be reviewing that publicly available. Paleface Swiss‘s 2025 album release “Cursed“, released 3rd January 2025 under Blood Blast Distribution which in essence is Nuclear Blast Records. Paleface Swiss are a swiss deathcore band formed in 2017 in Zurich. The band’s lineup currently consists of vocalist of Marc “Zelli” Zellweger, guitarist Yannick Lehmann, bassist Tommy Lee and drummer Cassiano “Cassi” Toma.

I’ll be honest before I even start to go into this review I’d like to just comment the amount of times I could possibly count “fuck” said on an album. It deserves an award for that in itself (in particular ‘Don’t you ever stop‘ leading the count on that by a tenfold mile).

The album ‘Cursed‘ has a run time of 28 minutes 39 seconds and features 9 tracks in total and is a follow on album from their previous 2022 release “Fear & Dagger” and shows a clear evolutionary path in their music. Throughout the album it brings solid technical work from the guys as you’d expect and as per the intensity from Zelli’s vocals throughout the album remains there.

Highlighted tracks for me personally on this album are “Don’t you ever stop” with it’s sheer amount of fucks that were clearly given throughout the entirety of this song, “Love Burns” which brings some very nice clean vocals into the mix and a more melodic vibe to the album breaking it up from it’s aggressive pace and “Rivers of Sorrow” which led the album out on a close of something that I wouldn’t have associated with with the band so it was an experience to see this sort of track to be on their album.

You can find the official video to ‘Rivers of Sorrow‘ below:

I feel the album is a testament to the musical variation that sets Paleface Swiss apart from others in the same genre with this album exploring into rap, acoustic and melodic whilst still keeping partially in their deathcore roots.

Overall, I rate this album 8/10. Whilst listening to this album I’ll be honest the only thing I could hold as a negative is that I feel slightly was that it was very slipknot-esque which I find weird as I’ve never really made a connection between Paleface Swiss and Slipknot but feels in ways that I was convincing myself sometimes throughout the first listen that I was listening to Slipknot. I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing on a personal level but I enjoyed it? I question myself with this. I know I enjoyed the album however I don’t know if I enjoy the fact I’m comparing these two bands in particular against each other. The latter part of the album brought back the familiar Paleface Swiss vibe and grounded back to the album being a release from them (albeit their last track ‘Rivers of Sorrow’). Strong album though, great first 2025 release to review. I’m more than happy I’ve given this album a good few hours time.

Score 8/10
