Quireboys: Hey You! The Parlophone Years 1989-1993, 4CD Box Set REVIEW

10th March 2025 0 By Jon Deaux

Hey You! The Parlophone Years is the real deal. None of that polished, overproduced nonsense, just straight-up, whiskey-drenched rock ‘n’ roll the way it was meant to be. The Quireboys weren’t here to reinvent the wheel, but they sure as hell made it spin faster, louder, and with a bottle of Jack balanced on top.

Disc one, A Bit of What You Fancy, is the sound of a bar fight in the best possible way. 7 O’Clock kicks in like a boot to the teeth, loud, dirty, and impossible to ignore.

Hey You? That’s the track you put on when you’re three sheets to the wind and convinced you’re the king of the dancefloor.
By the time you get to Bitter Sweet & Twisted, it’s clear these lads weren’t just slinging pub anthems—they had some proper bluesy grit, too. King of New York is slicker than it has any right to be, and Debbie is the kind of song that makes you think about an old flame you never should’ve left—or maybe the one you never should’ve called in the first place.
Then there’s disc four—live tracks and rarities. A band like Quireboys belongs on stage, loud, messy, and sweating booze. Spike sounds like he’s been gargling sandpaper since birth, and the band plays like they’re on their last night on Earth. That’s how it’s done.
Hey You! The Parlophone Years is for people who like their rock raw, their drinks strong, and their nights blurry. The Quireboys didn’t care about trends, and that’s exactly why this still holds up. So pour yourself something strong, turn it up, and let it rip. And if you wake up with a headache, well, that just means you did it right.
Score 8/10
