Rising Rock ‘diamond’ PETCH chats about her latest single ‘Ultraviolet’ and more

13th September 2024 0 By Jon Deaux
Hot off the heels of her acclaimed performances opening for multimillion-selling rock legends Placebo at Shepherd’s Bush Empire and international festivals, 14-year-old Thai rock sensation Vimolwan Saisathit a.k.a. PETCH  released her latest single, “Ultraviolet,” – OUT NOW.
“Ultraviolet” is a song that very much embodies the meaningful melodic rock of Evanescence and the punchy angst of Linkin Park. PETCH insists, too, that the meaning of the song is to follow your deepest darkest intuition. “Kill the light and follow the ultraviolet light that glows. It will get you where you deserve and want to be.”Intriguing! We set out to find out more about this rock-metal diamond

You’ve been playing music and busking from a very young age indeed. Tell us how you started and why!
It started from when I was a small child busking in the streets of Bangkok! My Dad taught me to play guitar and it set me on my rock journey! I actually learned a lot during COVID-19. During that time there were no promoters who could help us put on shows so I simply perfected my stagecraft at home during the lockdowns. It gave me lots of confidence.
What was it that inspired you to put together a rock band?
It’s my dream to be a rockstar and I have a lot of friends who have the same dream. It may seem very naive but we are very serious. We never give up on our dreams!
How did the name PETCH come about? What does it mean?
It means diamond in Thai. I like to say it’s because I sparkle like a true gem!
Who were your favorite bands growing up?
Avenged Sevenfold. I love everything about them. But I also love classic rock legends too like the majesty of Deep Purple and the rawness of Metallica.
Who are your favorite bands now?
Avenged Sevenfold!

I should’ve guessed (laughs)
Tell us about your previous single ‘9 Volter’ – it’s a total banger! What inspired it?
9 Volter this song represents fire. I have plenty of that! Trust me!
The follow up single ‘Black Neon’ is very wistful and melodic. Tell us what the song is about and what it means to you
Black Neon is about black light. In my opinion, if you’re in the dark side you can’t see anything when you’re in the night with no light. The Black neon still shines so you can see!
The latest single is ‘Ultraviolet’ – tell us about it.
It is about following your ‘darkest’ intuition. Listen to your heart and follow its advice!
Do you have an EP or album on the way?
I am really excited to be working on my debut album. Watch this space!
Looking forward to it.
Tell us about the charity you’re involved with in your birthplace of Bangkok
It’s called the Mercy Centre: a charity that supports underprivileged children in Bangkok. I’m so glad to be part of this charity as it’s especially for Thai kids. I’d like to see them smile.
That’s very cool. It sounds enriching too.
You recently supported Placebo (under their original name of ‘Ashtray Heart’ at Shepherds Bush Empire. That must have been amazing! Tell us all about it!
It was totally amazing! They are my heroes. Before the show I was shaking like a leaf! I was so excited, agitated and nervous. But it was so much fun and the guys were so wonderful to me that day. The audience were amazing. There is no feeling like being on that stage opening for Placebo! I will never forget it.
