S.B.P – ‘Take Me Back to Yesterday’ – CD Review

After 5 years, the North West-based music project, S.B.P (Scott Beveridge Project) released a follow-up to their debut album ‘A Long Way From Sanity’ – here’s what ‘Take Me Back to Yesterday’ is all about…

Take Me Back to Yesterday is a dynamic blend of hard rock, grunge, and classic metal. This album provides powerful riffs and touches on themes of internal conflict, resilience, and unanswered questions – giving all listeners a chance to relate.

Right out the gate, the opening track, ‘We Persevere’,  immediately sets the vibe with an eerie, atmospheric intro that transitions into a driving, chugging riff that screams 90s hard rock. It’s a track that begs to be played loud, making you feel like you want to drive fast with the wind in your hair.

Midway through the album, ‘Deadlock stands out with its live-ready vibe. The dynamic elements of this song, likely designed to engage a crowd, would make it a staple for live performances. Meanwhile, By Myself offers a refreshing shift with its smooth chorus harmonies that stick in your mind long after the song ends.

Personally, I think the heart of the album is Take Me Back to Yesterday– the title track. It’s introspective, touching on themes of regret and time. My favorite part was the haunting piano solo at the end because it leaves you thinking—would you go back if you could? It’s an unexpected moment of vulnerability that contrasts nicely with the heavier tracks.
If you’re into bands like Metallica, Megadeth, or Iron Maiden, you’ll find a lot to love here. Take Me Back to Yesterday pulls together some of the best parts of hard rock, grunge, and classic metal, making it an easy listen for anyone who’s into the classics.
