Senna – Stranger To Love – Album Review
16th May 2025 0 By Laura ThomasonDue for release May 23, 2025, under SharpTone Records, Senna will release their debut album, ‘Stranger To Love.’ I’ll be honest I hadn’t heard much from Senna or knew much about these guys until I was fortunate to catch them back on the 18th February, 2025, on tour with The Devil Wears Prada (If you haven’t checked out how that went down, you can read about them >> HERE <<). Since then, I have held myself in anticipation, awaiting the release, but lo and behold, I spot a wild Senna ‘Stranger To Love’ album and could not WAIT to get round to listening to this.
Firstly, Who is Senna? Senna is a progressive metalcore band hailing from Mannheim, Germany. They have quickly gained a following for their raw lyricism-fuelled music. With the inclusion of diverse soundscapes and vibrant musical compositions, Senna is on the uprise, and there’s no sign of stopping. With the debut album exploring deep and meaningful themes of human connection, personal growth, and vulnerability, the band resonates with connectability and relatability to their following.
Notable tracks on the album are ‘Rain‘, ‘Blackout‘, ‘Drunk Dial Anthem‘, ‘Breeze‘, and ‘Cliffhanger‘. As noted above and in the introduction to this review, Senna has a heavy focus on the emotionally driven aspect when it comes to lyrical composition, and this can be strongly identified throughout the album.I’d like to give a personal commendation to the track ‘Rain‘ that is on this album, as I found this such a euphoric listen and my favourite track on this album. I found that this track really spoke to me, and just something about it left my brain thinking “Yes, I need to hear this again,” and therefore I found it on a little repeat loop for a good 20 minutes. If that’s not a sign of a good hook and being line and sinkered (if that’s even a phrasing of that, if not.. now it is) this was the track to do so.
Overall, I found the album really enjoyable to listen to and felt that it had a very good dynamic balance, this being applicable to the actual depth of the album and also the production quality, which can not be faulted at all. The album delivered a progressive instrumental interplay with vocal shifts that provided and conveyed a raw emotion at one moment, then switched to a melodic melancholy chorus, followed by fiery defiance. It was delivered bloody well, and I can honestly take my hat off (If I had one) to this album. The album scores a solid 9.5/10. I know this album hasn’t even come out yet and will blow the socks off people who enjoy progressive metalcore, but honestly, I’m excited for what the future holds for these guys. I would highly recommend this album to anyone who is a fan of Invent Animate, Polaris, Currents, Landmvrks and ERRA.
