Sex Pistols 7″ Single 2023 Reissues – Review
22nd July 2023At the time of writing UMr has issued Anarchy In The UK and Holidays In The Sun replica singles by the legendary punk icons the Sex Pistols.
Anarchy is issued on Blood Red vinyl with correct EMI labels (if they wanted it to be totally correct the mis credit of Chris Thomas would be present as it was that version that was released in the black cover. But I’m being incredibly picky)
Holidays is pressed on what can only be described as a translucent piss yellow platter and with the correct Virgin red and white Logo.
Both releases now credit Lydon instead of Rotten on the writing credits. No bad thing just a very minor change.
Both singles sound amazing and appear to be straight from the master tapes as opposed to the digital files and sound as fresh as ever.
The B-Side of Anarchy (I Wanna Be Me) is tremendous and of course, is from the 1976 Dave Goodman sessions.
The B Side of Holidays is Satellite, again, no fault in the sound.
Al 4 sides sound sodding GLORIOUS when cranked to annoy the neighbors.
For a Sex Pistols fan these are an essential purchase. Both singles are limited edition pressing. 4576 copies for Anarchy In The UK and 4577 for Holidays In The Sun. (45 being the speed of the record and 76/77 for the original year. Nice touch if not a little geekie).
My original singles are well and truly trashed as they’re nearing 50 years of age (correct at time of writing) so it’s lovely to have a colored vinyl variant from the original masters and a proper replica of the original pressings.
Personally, I’m hoping UMc continue to issue colored variants of the Nevermind The Bollocks singles. God Save The Queen and Pretty Vacant are left. Although GSTQ was included as part of the super deluxe 35 year box as the A&M version, so who knows which version (if any) they choose.
I bloody love the Pistols so of course I’m going to say they’re amazing. But pick yourself up a copy and then tell me I’m wrong.
