Skarlet Envy drop by AATR HQ
23rd April 2025Enter the shadowy realm of Skarlet Envy, a gothic heavy metal band that weaves tales of sorrow, despair, and forbidden love through their haunting melodies.
Hailing from the fog-laden cities of Hertfordshire & Bedfordshire, their music blends the crushing riffs and thunderous drums of classic heavy metal with the melancholic beauty of gothic rock.
They swooped in on us like a murder of crows into our office to tell us all about their latest video ‘Masquerade’, and being back in the studio recording their 2nd album.
How did the recording go for this?It went well; we mostly did the recording at home individually, apart from drums, which we did in the studio (London Road Studios, Baldock). Our Bassist, Dan did the production on his end, mixing and masterin,g which was great as it allowed more time for him to work on the song until it felt ready for release. Although this was his first foray into producing, we’re really proud of him and happy with the result.
What drew you to the video location?
We were looking for a location with multiple spaces and a feel that would suit the atmosphere for the video. We took a visit to the location (Chalton Village Hall), and it had the charm we were looking for.
Did you consider any other locations?
We did consider another location; it was a cellar/basement in a music venue, however, the cost and logistics just didn’t work for us. We decided on our final location as it suited the aesthetic we were looking for and also was enough of a blank canvas for us to set design.
How did you come up with the concept for this video?
The ideas came about following a meeting we had with our videographer; she encouraged us to dig deep into the reason why we’re telling this story. It’s the second part of the story that started with our single Resurrection, so it needed to make sense leading on from there, but also match the song’s lyrics and style.
Is the video close to the final vision?
Yes, definitely, there were some teething issues, as certain parts weren’t quite working as planned, but with a little help from friends, we got it back on track. Our videographer Ellie, did a fantastic job.
A little birdie told us you’re in the process of recording your 2nd album, is this correct?
We are getting to the final stages of recording for our second album. A few weeks ago, we did some more drums in the studio, and now onto some production before vocals and finalised guitar solos get recorded. We are still playing around with some more material that will also possibly be added to the album. It’s a work in progress, but coming along nicely.
What’s it like delving into the depths of new songs in the studio? Are you guys excited to release new material?
We are definitely looking forward to releasing the new material. We’re all itching to get it out there so we can add it to our set. Through the process, we have made some changes to songs as we go, tweaking and improving; it’s been satisfying to really take some time and get them right.
How do you think your fans will receive the new music?
We’re hoping they will enjoy the new music; if they like Resurrection and Masquerade, then they should also enjoy the rest of the songs on the album. The feedback we have had so far has been positive. We’ve gone for a much darker feel this time with our second album. Musically heavier and lyrically deeper and darker.
What have you got lined up so far this year?
Next is to finish this album and keep on writing new songs, keeping the momentum going. We have a festival in June – Darker Days in Leicester on the 27th and 28th – which we’ve been looking forward to for some time now.
Costa or Starbucks?
Ooh, can we throw you a curveball back…? Neither . We tend to go to independent coffee shops when we can, and our go-to coffee brand at home is Black Coffee Worship.
