Concept band, Slinky Vagabond return with a second album ‘The Eternal Return’. Following up the 2021 release of ‘King Boy Vandals’, Keanan Duffty and Fabio Fabbri have once again blended their love of punk and rock alongside a whole host of collaborations with some of the most respected players in their respective fields whilst simultaneously allowing themselves the space to be musically creative.
To be released on 14 January, ‘The Eternal Return’ will be available on vinyl and CD and can be pre-ordered here.
Slinky Vagabond originally formed in 2007 and became an integral part of the New York club scene and performed at celebrations for Joey Ramone’s Birthday Bash alongside the New York Dolls, Fashion Week’s Gen Art and Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp and Marc Bolan’s 30th Anniversary Show alongside Patti Smith, Tom Morello, Joan Jett and Ronnie Spector.
The band’s ethos was built with guest collaborations at its core which remains central today. The original lineup featured Keanan Duffty – who remains one of the driving forces behind the band – Earl Slick (David Bowie, John Lennon), Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols, Rich Kids), Clem Burke (Blondie, The Ramones) and Pete Shelley (Buzzcocks) on backing vocals.
The idea of developing the band beyond just live performances came when Duffty met Fabio Fabbri at a lecture he was hosting alongside Glen Matlock in 2017. Fabbri – a guitarist, producer and songwriter – and Duffty started sharing ideas and a co-writing partnership was born. But Slinky Vagabond’s wouldn’t be the Slinky Vagabond’s without a few guest names and they came in the shape of Midge Ure (Ultravox/Visage/Live Aid co-founder), Dave Formula (Magazine/Visage), Richard Fortus (Guns N’ Roses/Psychedelic Furs), David Torn (David Bowie/David Sylvian), Tony Bowers (Durutti Column/Simply Red) and Martin Turner (Wishbone Ash) and the results ended up becoming their debut album ‘King Boy Vandals’.
‘The Eternal Return’ continues the bands story and ethos. Again, the songwriting of Duffty/Fabbri has produced rock and punk tracks that wear their influence on their sleeve but remain quintessentially them.
These tracks have attracted collaboration with a plethora of incredible musicians who have played and continue to play with some of the world’s most admired musicians.
Appearing on ‘The Eternal Return’ is Ava Cherry, Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols), Mike Garson (David Bowie’s pianist), Percy Jones (bassist for Kate Bush, Suzanne Vega, Brian Eno), Earl Slick (David Bowie, John Lennon), and Dom Beken (Nick Mason’s Saucerful Of Secrets, The Orb).
