The Agony – Bannermans – Edinburgh – 25th August 2024

26th August 2024 0 By Jon Deaux

Once more into the fray dear readers.  After not playing in Edinburgh for 7 years The Agony (from the Czech Republic) finally made a triumphant return to Bannermans and tore the roof off the place.

As soon as Nikola (Vocals, rhythm/lead guitar), Petra (lead guitar), Domi (bass), and Martina (drums) took the stage and played the opening of House of Mirrors, it was game on.

The Agony certainly gives Thundermother a run for their money live. Their energy and power are relentless.

Despite only playing for an hour their set comprised mainly of the new album Rising it was great to hear older tracks like T.W.S. (The Whore Song).

The highlight tracks for me were Breathe Out and History. No Future but it’s the earworm that is She Said that will stick with me for some time. I even woke up humming it. Damn you girlies, damn you to hell.

The Agony is the future for when bands such as Girlschool sadly retire. Grab a copy of The Rising record and you’ll see what I mean.

I hope it’s not another 7 years for The Agony to re-appear in Edinburgh.
