The Music Goes On and On: The Complete Works of Jerry the Ferret Pub Rock Heroes Finally Gain Recognition
25th March 2025Jerry the Ferret were one of the leading lights of the UK Pub Rock scene from their formation in 1972. Musically, somewhere between Brinsley Schwartz and Lindisfarne, Jerry the Ferret had the distinction of having three lead singers and strong songwriters.
The complete recorded works of Jerry the Ferret are available for the first time and encapsulated in “The Music Goes On and On”. Released by Conquest Music on CD and digitally on 18th April 2025.
In their heyday, Jerry the Ferret only released a couple of singles. The most successful being “One Step Forward”. The BBC took a liking to this song, and it got many plays on Radio 1. The band also made many live appearances on the BBC and their follow up EP “The Music Goes On and On” came out on the band’s Dead Horse label.
It has been suggested that, despite having an abundance of great songs, one reason Jerry the Ferret did not achieve the success of their peers was the lack of a single focal point as front man and singer.
Tony Sales, Terry Horgan, and Steve Oliver were all prolific writers with each taking the lead vocal on their own songs.
Unlike many of the pub rock bands of the time who would liberally sprinkle R&B standards as covers in their live set to make themselves more accessible to the audience unfamiliar with their music, Jerry the Ferret would play almost exclusively their own songs.
Original member, Steve Oliver has been a mainstay of Essex based purveyors of cosmic americana, The Ugly Guys since their formation in 2003.
It’s through their relationship with Conquest Music that Steve was persuaded to dust off the tapes and approve the curation, mastering and release of the complete recorded works of Jerry the Ferret for the first time.
Twenty-two tracks are squeezed on to a deluxe CD with 24-page lyric booklet, allowing a new generation to discover the amazing craft of Jerry the Ferret.
